young barack obama wins the illinois senate seat vacated by carol mosley braun in 1998.

he is an immediate hit on the national scene.

in a bit of a surprise he wins the democrat presidential nomination in 2004.  he chooses former nebraska senator bob kerrey as his veep

obama/kerrey vs. bush/cheney.

discuss w/maps.

A dream scenario if he left politics after his defeat.

I think he would do better than Kerry in such a scenario.

It goes to the house. From there I think Bush would win. An amusing scenario, I think we would have riots Wink

Bush 398
Obama 140

Easily a Bush landslide victory.  A one-term liberal senator, middle name "Hussein", no military or national security experience whatsoever, right when the US is engaged in the middle of a war in the Middle East.  Obama=spanked.    Will be relegated to the dustbins of history as just another one of those odd little characters that had the bad judgement to run against a wartime incumbent adminstration.

If Kerry almost won on "I'm not George Bush", what makes you thinkk that Obama would do so badly?

Bush/Cheney       345
Obama/Kerrey     193

In 2004, John Kerry had an established record as a long serving Senator.  In this scenario, the nation is not about to entrust national security to a young, one term, liberal Senator.
