Could this be a viable analogy?

McCain = Kerry

Sanford/Crist/Pawlenty = Edwards

Huckabee = Howard Dean (and if the GOP wasn't run by inflexible ideologues, he would have the equivalent to Dean's job post-election)

Ron Paul = Kucinich

Jindal = Obama

I'm probably missing others.  Oh well, this is inaccurate enough.

No. Huckabee rose, not collapsed. Sanford/Crist/Pawlenty = Edwards makes no sense. None of them ran for President, all are governors, Edwards was not.

Ron Paul had more support than Kucinich could dream of, and Jindal has absolutely nothing to do with this election. Horrible analogy.

The only viable comparison I really see there is McCain and Kerry. Besides that I really don't see it.

No Democrats 1968 = Democrats 2008 (unless Obama holds).

I agree with this one.

I'm assuming that Sanford/Crist/Pawlenty or one of the golden boys becomes McCain's VP.  And that Jindal is going to really look like Obama when he gives the keynote address at the RNC.

Perhaps I should have waited a few months before posting this thread.

Uh why so sure Jindal will be the keynote speaker at the RNC?

"We're facing a black guy so we better make an Indian guy keynote speaker". Uh, I'm not following that logic.

Eh, they're both new, fresh racial minority faces, not saddled with corruption or the baggage of experience, well-received with media hype, relatively orthodox with the party line, with good credentials, and came into office by trouncing their opponents easily.

Obama energized the Dems, who were stuck with Kerry, in '04.  Look at where he is now.  Think about it.
