I'm curious -- as we all know, there are many ways to determine the winner this year even before the results from Ohio and Florida come in -- exit polls may show a clear winner, or Bush just getting 50.01% in Indiana might do the trick. Or --- (for bandit's sake) kerry wins KY.

Either way, are you the type of person that prefers to sit back in their easy chair, stick to CSPAN or PBS (no pundit commentary) and savor election night, waiting for the results to come in from each state?

Or do you prefer to just know ASAP so you can break out the beer or the tissues?

I stayed up late on November whenever of 2000 watching each state's results come in and probably will do the same on this coming November 2.  I like the suspense, even if the results do evoke the desire to utilize profanity.

That sounds exactly like me -- I'll be in my dorm room, my little TV on, my roommate telling me to "turn that damn thing off, Kerry lost already!" as I eagerly await an upset in Alaska!

Lets hope it's the other way around though, heh.

I like to know erly, though exit polls aren't 100% accurate.  I'll be watching Virginia, North Carolina, New Hampshire, and Maine CD2 to see if any of them turn out to be early surprises that portend for the rest of the night.  Florida will probably be too close early on to get a call, but if the networks hold back Virgnia I'll know to worry.

If, for example, you hear that Kerry won RI and got there only 64%, then it means that Bush won the election by approximately 52:47

Personally, I don't think there should be any election night coverage where they start calling states as the polls close since it is unfair to the West Coast and Hawai'i/Alaska, but since I have no way of altering the course of the evil media, I'll be sitting at my desk behind my sofa, watching my big screen with HGTV or History Channel displaying one one half of the screen, and Fox news on the other half (muted) while I'm playing Civilization III or Sim City 4.  Smiley

Life is gooooooooood!   hehehe

I like to watch CNN and see the pundits. I savor election night by watching the best analysis there is, CNN.

He means Kerry is so heavily favored in RI that if he doesn't win real big, Bush has an advantage over the swing states.

If a candidate is up by more than ten in the exit polls they will usually call the state.  If Bush is up 51-48 in an Ohio exit poll, for example, they will wait for results to come in before they make a projection.

Which, of course, is absolute garbage. Because she doesn't put into account weather and many other factors. States don't conspire together to vote a certain way. The only time it matters  is West Coast vs East coast....If the east coast is a landslide MOST LIKELY but no definately the West will go to the victor. It does not work that way on the east coast because of time zones. Shiras assumptions are merely that....assumptions. And you know what assumptions are! Smiley

I'll watch the entire election coverage from Indiana to Alaska if/until the networks call the election for Kerry. At that point I'll receive so much ribbing from my friends and will be laughed at so much I'll just leave the room in disgust.

hehehe . . . don't worry.  I still remember the rubbing I got with Perot by my fellow friends and co-workers.  At least back then it didn't matter too much as to whom the President was, since all three were so close alike in many ways.  This years race, however, isn't so "relaxed."

I like the suspense of Election Night...Exit Polls tell me nothing because  its the ELECTORAL VOTE that matters...not

Exit polls of the individual states can tell you which way the EV's will go.

Ah Election Night. The BBC in the UK carried the results during the wee small hours in 2000 and I stayed up to watch Kansas declare I think, before I nodded off...thinking Gore won...cough. Of course here in the UK national election coverage especially on the BBC is fantastic, with 659 declerations to get through. A big set, flashing lights and computerised maps flooding the UK with reds, blues and the odd bit of yellow. The exit poll usually goes something like 'Blair to be Prime Minister with a landslide majority' as in 1997 or 'Hung Parliament' as in 1992, when the exit polls got it dead wrong. If you plan to take a vacation come to Britain the day of the election and spend the night in!

Hopefully I'll get a chance tonight, and I will take a picture of "MODU's Election Central" tonight.  hehehe . . . full set-up, with split screen coverage (might do it during the NY Giants game tonight) as well as having the Computer screen set on . . . none other than . . . our wonderful forum.  Smiley

Someone remind me tonight before 8pm EST.  hehehe

I stay up until they call a winner or give up (i.e. 2000).
I have my own excel sheet, predict the winner in each state and follow along to see which states I miss.  (I have a similar prediiton shet fo reach Senate race).

I like to watch Dan Rather on CBS simply because he usually  goes nuts with clichés,  though I channel surf alot to see if anything interesting is happening on another channel

"The Democrat's fingernails are starting to sweat"

"tighter than the pages in a book"

A few he used in 2002.

I can't stand it when the big networks call winners after like 30% have reported. I know their predictions are right almost all the time, but it just wrecks the hope of a comeback of a candidate for me.

I see myself scrambling to find up to date results in New Mexico for Badnarik. I can't wait to see how he does there.

1. I am going to tape the race, either for 1. A lazy sunday when i am bored or 2. When i need a kick in the rear end motivation, nothing will get me more angry than that victory.   Sounds meaningless, but i might watch it the day before i give me speech to run for re-election in my high school class office.

Watching in live is probably CNN with some switches to Rather.  I'll probably channel surf to see "calls".

Oh and im going to try to hold a party with my  high school friends. (Rep and dem)
