Hey John.  It's a political campaign.  But hey, if you want to spend your time attacking your own side than I'm sure Barack will be glad to sit back and watch.  A guy used Barack's middle name at a political rally.  Whew.  How horrible.  What's next?  You gonna next admonish anyone on your side for calling Obama a liberal or is that off limits now too?  LOL.  Don't worry John, I'm sure George Soros' groups are gonna take it real easy on you in the campaign and play nice with you in the sandbox.  Of course, you didn't mind treating Romney like a turd on the bottom of your shoe.  But hey, he was conservative and not a United States SENATOR.  Whew.

Somebody wake me up when this nightmare is over.  I might even vote for Senator McCain in the GE - that is, if I remember to or don't have to wash my hair that day.  We're fired up.  So long John.  You have about 8 months left to bask in the glow of your media friends.  Here's a hint.  They want Obama and you're in for a rude awakening my friend.  What, the NY Times story wasn't a wakeup call?

Lord have mercy.

Well I entirely agree. Once Republicans start being decent people, what do they have left? Tongue

Haha,  The NY Times hatchet piece was a little preview of the "decent" left has in store for the "honorable" John McCain.

LMAO.  It ought to be a fun time for all.  So long John.  Don't let the door hit you in the ass.

It's the correct move by McCain - though the reason why is a little counter-intuitive.

I like how he made the "100 years" statement about Iraq and is now withdrawing that statement, plus what he said about Losing in November over the Iraq issue and retracting that statement too. NOW hes going along saying he will ultimately end the war at somepoint......OKAY?

Good question.  Let him answer it.  He won't get any cover from conservatives on our side.  That's what happens when you pee all over your own party members year after year.  No help from us John.  Good luck Senator and goodbye.

We owe Obama a debt of gratitude for ridding the country once and for all of the Clintons.  As far as the general election, your on your own John.  Maybe your liberal "friends" in the media can help you out.  Ha  (Don't count on it on it John).  Good luck pal.

Oh come on. The guy was clearly out of line with the comments and imagine how much crap would have surfaced if McCain DIDN'T disavow the remarks. McCain is a stand up guy, he's not going to tolerate that stuff.

As for November, I'm confident McCain will win Florida, Ohio and hold enough to put himself over the top.

Its silly on his part though for letting him speak, then ultimately having to apologize to everyone for having this guest speaker at his rally do something stupid. Now this guy, some radio host right? Is spewing crap all over the airwaves about McCain and how he "threw him under the bus..."

I disagrree Mike.  His "friends" in the media will hack him to death for the next 8 months.  The NY Times was their opening shot.  That didn't work but there's tons more to follow.  They're just getting warmed up.  McCain was fine as long as he was going against Bush.  The MSM was all "you go John".  The fall campaign?  Forget it.  Florida?  Yeah, I agree with you.  Ohio, that's your stomping grounds so maybe you know something I don't.  However, I doubt it seriously.  I've never seen my fellow Republicans more lacking in enthusiasm.  Who does Senator McCain think is gonna go to war for him and make the phone calls, lick the envelopes, get out the votes?  His lib friends in the media?

I thought he was fairly well positioned for the fall.  After watching yesterday's McCain on the stump, good luck.

I felt the same way after seeing this story. Here is where Giuliani would have been good: in a scrap. BHO appears to be a decent guy, but he certainly is savvy and effective in the toughest sort of campaigning. Mac's got a losing shtick now. And I don't think he'll change much on the trail... he's almost 72.

Hope I'm wrong!

No one (from either party) gets more of a free pass from the media than John McCain. You Republicans should be celebrating that he's the nominee. The media is going to be extremely favorable to you.

I'm not going to complain about the media.  It is what it is and their for Barack all the way and will be in the tank for Obama all the way.  It's just the lay of the land and McCain will have to deal with it just like Obama has to deal with talk radio.  (Of course, talk radio soesn't operate under the perception of "unbiased).

As far as McCain getting good treatment from the MSM, that has been the case in the past.  Absolutely.  No doubt.  However, that was because he was going against other Republicans.  Now he's up against a Democrat.  Way different.  The NY Times last week gave us a window into the fall coverage.  Sure it backfired.  Still expect it over and over during th next eight months.

The funny thing is that McCain expects the favorable coverage to continue during the general election.  Poor dumb bastard.

I expect him to as well. I have never seen any other politician get a complete free pass like he does.

And that is why I supported Rudy first before McCain. At least with Rudy, you'd know that he wouldn't have anything nice to say about the Democrats, nor would he defend them. He spent much of his primary attacking Hillary and the Democrats. One of the reasons I hesitated to support McCain is that he would be too nice to the Dems.

Watch Obama. He's a sly character. He puts out attacks with a smile. His whole campaign has been an attack on the Clintons--yet people perceive it to be a positive one.

I need to take McCain's side on this one.  The guy was there to introduce McCain at an event for McCain, which means the speaker should have had McCain's interest in mind.  If McCain is trying to run a campaign which is above cheap attacks on names, then those who are speaking on his behalf need to do the same.  And then, this speaker goes onto a different show and goes nuts over McCain's response to his intro?  The guy definitely needs to sit back and reflect on the bigger picture.

Now, as far as the use of "Hussein" by the talking heads on the right, you guys honestly need to get over yourselves.  It is only used as a cheap shot against Obama in the attempts to make him sound as if he's Islamic.  All it does is makes you look like racists, and as a result, are helping Obama gain ground in the general public opinion.  If his middle name was "Washington," it would never be mentioned at all.  Grow up.

Good.  I'll try to do that.

In the meantime, I'll look forward to the civil campaign discourse from the "adults" on the left.

Just to follow through on my theory - where no one else has.

Hillary Clinton, in many ways, has failed b/c she's done too much direct dog-whistling from her campaign.

In today's world, the dog-whistling needs to be done indirectly.

In other words, talk radio/right-wing media sources calls him Barack Hussein Obama, passes around material that he's a Muslim, has a racist pastor etc.  Then McCain goes and denounces them for doing it.  Guess what - the message still gets out to those who think it's important.  At the same time, McCain appeals to those despise that type of campaigning and message.

Think of it as the anti-Sister Souljah idea, b/c the two are quite similar.

Actually, I saw Cunningham on Hannity and Colmes later and I thought that he was a true, old-school, died-in-the-wool racist.

Nevertheless, I have to say: it is his middle name. I don't give a care, but it shouldn't be considered an underhanded negative assault to say someone's middle name.

No one is implying that he is Saddam (or alternately, the former King of Jordan who is pretty well regarded in the States). For better or worse, it just reminds people how worldly our country has become and how much Obama is a representative of that quality. For my money, it's helped him as much or more than it's hurt him.

BTW, what did McCain's denuncification get him? Keith Olbermann said last night that McCain was an utter failure because he didn't do enough.  I guess because he didn't rush the stage an tackle the guy at the moment he said it.

You can't make this stuff up.

"It is his middle name" and it has no substance in discussion.  No one goes around talking about John Sidney McCain or Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton, do they?  No.  The only reason it is used is as a futile attempt as a racial slur and/or link him to Islam.  "It shouldn't be considered an underhanded..." unless you listen to the way they all say it.  They accentuate Hussein, either with dramatic pauses or draaaaaging it out sarcastically.  It just shows how immature those that stoop to such petty playground antics really are.  In the end, you are only helping the person you're trying to knock down.

I was about to post that, but I'm just a newbie so I tip my hat.

Anyway, the right-wing are totally overplaying their hand on the Hussein and muslim thing. It is now so much common knowledge that thats just his name, no, he's actually a christian, the costume was a perfectly normal thing for a politician - that any traction it may have had, i.e. "are we actually electing a muslim???" is highly unlikely now, except amongst the folks that wouldn't have voted for him anyway coz he's black.
