I'm thinking Sanford.

However, my top choices are, in order of least to most realistic, are Lieberman, Graham, and Crist.

Governor Mark Sanford of South Carolina will be his Vice-Presidential candidate -I have little reason to think any differently now as opposed to then.

The obvious choice is Pawlenty, who will unquestionably help McCain to trounce Obama by a 78-22 margin in Minnesota.

In all seriousness though, I think Bill Owens would be his best pick.

I still think Kay Bailey Hutchison will be his VP choice.

Rudy or Sanford. He hates Romney too much for them to function together.

still sticking with Pawlenty.  Intrade says I'm right, although Sanford has no individual stock so it's hard to tell.

Why would Romney want to play second fiddle? Romney would never do that.

I'm still saying, like many, that Senator McCain will select Governor Mark Sanford of South Carolina to be his running mate.

Explain it to me too.  This is almost as bad as Pawlenty Syndrome.

He's a competent, conservative, southern Governor who isn't so conservative that he'd turn off McCain's independent voters. He also is someone that would be able to step into the office of President easily if God forbid something was to happen to McCain. He's exactly what McCain needs.

If McCain pays off, he'll select Sanford, who saved McCain's derriere.

the 'Pawlenty Syndrome' is mostly based upon the fact that Pawlenty was an early and important backer of the McCain candidacy and stuck with him through thick and thin.

And from that standpoint, I accept it.  What I don't accept is the notion that Pawlenty on the ticket would deliver Minnesota.  And some have said -- in fact, one doofus on MSNBC last night said -- Pawlenty would swing Wisconsin and Iowa.  Not a chance.  He might have merit as a VP choice on the basis of his relative youth and conservatism.  But he's not a guy who can deliver a solid D state like Minnesota.

Let's be honest.....Sanford is a no-name.  So is Pawlenty.  I'm banking on a no no-name VP pick.

Why would you expect McCain to pick a running mate who's well known?  All the possibilities who are well known would be terrible choices.

I respectfully disagree.

Guiliani
Rice
Ridge
Allen
Huck
etc....

In my view these are not terrible choices.  I don't know who he'll pick but those from the no name governors club, in my view, aren't helpful.

Well, I do think those are all terrible choices.  Not that they'd all be bad vice presidents, just that they'd unnecessarily complicate things for McCain electorally.  Picking a pro-choicer like Giuliani or Ridge would unnecessarily antagonize social conservatives.  Rice has no electoral experience, and picking her would also make it difficult for McCain to put any distance between his and Bush's foreign policy views.  Huckabee is loathed by most movement conservatives, who already have enough problems with McCain, plus his religiosity is too overt even for some Republicans, let alone swing voters.  And George Allen.....do I even need to explain that one?

But I just don't get why some people think that "name recognition" is some kind of a qualification for a VP candidate.  Who cares if the person in question was well known before?  Once they become a major party VP nominee, they would become famous overnight.
