Note as of 06:00 pm Monday; Hillary claims not to have known about the photo but says it's not big deal it's a public domain photo and Obama campaign is using this as a distraction.  We now have Hillary weighing in.  It's all on her personally.  Here is the link from ABCNEWS

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/02/clinton-on-phot.html

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Original Post Sad

http://www.drudgereport.com/flashoa.htm

"In December, the campaign asked one of its volunteer county coordinators in Iowa to step down after the person forwarded an e-mail falsely stating that Barack Obama is a Muslim.

Obama campaign manager David Plouffe quickly accused the Clinton campaign Monday of 'shameful offensive fear-mongering' for circulating the snap".

Clinton campaign manager Maggie Williams responds

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0208/Clintons_response_the_days_Drudge.html

"Enough.

If Barack Obama's campaign wants to suggest that a photo of him wearing traditional Somali clothing is divisive, they should be ashamed. Hillary Clinton has worn the traditional clothing of countries she has visited and had those photos published widely.

This is nothing more than an obvious and transparent attempt to distract from the serious issues confronting our country today and to attempt to create the very divisions they claim to decry.

We will not be distracted."

The Clinton Campaign has nothing to do but circulate Barack Obama pictures a week before critical primaries and it's not to try and gain an advantage?  Amazing...

getting desperate, it appeats...This really makes me extremely angry. I'm starting to consider not voting for Clinton if she wins the nomination...I'm getting fed up with her.

To be fair, I think it was just circulated internally and Drudge got a hold of it.

Still, I'm getting very impatient with Hillary still in the race.

Hillary has no conscience about anything. It's all about her getting power. The end justifies the means.

Some of you sound surprised.  The Clintons have been doing this to their political enemies since the 80s

Actually, this is great news for Obama.  It only goes to confirm how desperate and out of ammo Hillary's campaign is.

No biggie.  Hillary and Bill will be history in just a few weeks.

If true I don't think I can support her should she win the nomination. It's a very, very low aim by a lady I thought was above that.

I do agree that this is pretty low, but it certainly wouldn't get me to vote for the Republican.  Between questioning Obama's patriotism and this whole "OMG HE'S A MUSLIM" incident, Obama is pretty much the only one left that I could support.

If Hillary wins the nomination, I'm writing in Barack Obama.

I guarantee you the McCain campaign will use this picture (or at least a 527 group affiliated with McCain).

Whether this is Hillary's supporters doing their own thing or whether it's been sanctioned from above I don't know but I'm just gonna say this.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is, increasingly, acting in an undignified manner and I do construe that as an act of desparation. She must not be allowed to get away with it

Be that so, then the McVain campaign, or any affiliated 527 group, should not be allowed to get away with it either Wink

I updated above due to Clinton campaign response.  here is the update:

In December, the campaign asked one of its volunteer county coordinators in Iowa to step down after the person forwarded an e-mail falsely stating that Barack Obama is a Muslim.

Obama campaign manager David Plouffe quickly accused the Clinton campaign Monday of 'shameful offensive fear-mongering' for circulating the snap.

From what I seem to be reading, there are no claims from the Obama camp that the picture is faked.  Henceforth, I would assume that it is real.

Once again, this is the reason why the Muslim issue needed to be addressed earlier in the campaign, the moment it came out.  Because, even though this may not help the Clintons right now or ever, these things have a nasty habit of reappearing sometime in the middle of August.

What could you expect out of Clinton? She's an elitist, fear-mongering hack who would do anything to obtain power. I will not vote for her in the general and, provided she chooses to stay in the senate, will actively support and fund her primary opponent.

Check the drugereport story now. It has the pictures of George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and Hillary/Chelesa wearing the local clothing.  Barack Obama cannot but they can?

Everybody knows what the Clinton campaign was implying and her Campaign leader Maggie Williams sees nothing wrong with it.   OK...that's her opinion

I glad you think Hillary's team is doing a service to the democratic party by bringing this out early

Clinton campaign manager Maggie Williams responds: "If Barack Obama's campaign wants to suggest that a photo of him wearing traditional Somali clothing is divisive, they should be ashamed."

"We only publicized this photo because Barack looks so dashing in those robes and making Barack look good is part of our always positive campaign for the White House.  We also want to celebrate the diversity in the race for the Democratic nomination, such as the fact that Barack is a Muslim terrorist who hates America, the flag, and the national anthem and pledge of allegiance," Maggie Williams added.

"As a joke" I can find this quite amusing if I was a Clinton insider.  To use it as a "gotcha" of sorts, however, is just down right dumb.  For Obama though, he should have seen this coming.

Of course, we know what the Clinton campaign is implying.  Saying that everyone else does it is a good defense, except for the fact that it's not the reason behind the release, nor the implication.

Which proves yet again the validity of my point above.

If Hillary wins the nomination, I'm writing in Barack Obama.

Can I entice you in that case to vote for the unstoppable Nader/Gravel ticket?

If the picture is real and taken with Obama's consent, then he shouldn't be making a big deal out of it.  Wearing the attire was a goodwill gesture and he should be proud of it. He implies he is ashamed of the photo, which is insulting to Muslims worldwide.

The problem is with the implication by those spreading it around, not the actual context of the photo.

I doubt that's the case he's trying to make. Rather, that Clinton is circulating it to generate a negative effect which is extremely insulting to muslims.

I doubt the Clinton campaign is circulating this internally to show how much goodwill Obama has.

Exactly. It is blatantly obvious that this isn't an instance of, "Oh, look at how great Obama is at adapting to local customs when he makes foreign visits!" It's more Muslim-baiting.
