1) McCain
2) Obama
3) Clinton
4) Huckabee

McCain's in a strange way reflects the qualities his campaign is trying to project, it's clear and strong in it's type and colours, almost millatry - actually it's very very good (in so far as campaign signs go) in reflecting the campaign's entire style and narative.

Obama's is good but not great, the type isnt amazing, but the use of colours is good clear and bold - Clinton's is a bit confused - Huckabee's is generic (although it's probably on a par with Clinton's).

Of course very little of this matters at all... Wink

From best to worst - Obama, McCain, Clinton, Huckabee. Obama's and McCain's are close in quality, Clinton's is a couple ranks below that, and Huckabee has his a couple ranks below that.

Huckabee's is bad, and Hillary's is bad because of the location of the 'for president', otherwise it'd be a respectable rather than distant third. Whilst the O is fantastic, Obama's banner is weaker than McCain's, which would be better without the website.

I like Obama and McCain's the best. McCain's black banner was pretty badass.

McCain's looks like that of a schmancy five-star hotel or some other upper-class business.  And the star looks like the NATO compass, which must give the militias some shivers.  I think Obama's morning in America circle lacks good placement on his banner, but otherwise it's good.  The flag under Hillary Clinton's sign is kind of old-looking, like it's from the '80s.  I really can't see what's so bad about Huckabee's banner, other than the gold words and the overall look is kind of cheap.

The NYT had a good run-down on the graphic design principles of the Bush-Cheney and Kerry-Edwards logos in 2004.  I think Obama's people have responded to some of the criticisms of the KE banner and have since changed his name to an all-caps, more bold font.  It gives more of an image of strength.  The new Obama wordmark is gradually being phased in.

That was quite an opinionated analysis.  I liked it, though, because it seemed quite accurate and I like these interesting pop/folk psychology diagrams very much.  Except the "loose letter spacing communicates inexperience" one.  That one was just voodoo.
