It's not limited to the "old" or "New Deal Democrats."  There are racists in all age groups that simply will not vote for a black (or half-black) man.  Just as there are a few sexists that will not vote for a woman (or Killary) for President.

The New Deal Democrats who are racist are probably going to vote Democratic, just because that is how they have always voted.  Besides, I doubt there are enough of these people to impact the election at all.

Older working class voters are certainly a potential problem for Obama. The thing about old people is that they vote and if they don't vote for you then...

...but note that I said "potential". If he's clever about things then it might not turn out to be such a problem after all, but Democratic presidential candidates are rarely clever when it comes to elections (for the past thirty six years or so anyway) so...
Note also that I wrote "older working class" rather than "old" or "working class". Younger (and middle aged actually) working class voters will largely vote for Obama anyway and those that don't want to because of race are likely to stay at home. And older voters from middle class backgrounds won't vote for him anyway (but will instead vote overwhelmingly for McCain; an ideal candidate for them in many, most maybe, ways).

More on this at a later date, perhaps. Though one final thought for now; the very worst thing he can do over this is to pretend that there is no problem.

Most older people are more complicated than "old, racist New Deal Democrats", and frankly, I don't think there's a whole hell of a lot of them left anyway.

I guess he meant to imply that non-voting half were dead.

Though one final thought for now; the very worst thing he can do over this is to pretend that there is no problem.

Which is the reason why I don't understand why his campaign hasn't and doesn't do something to stop the Muslim crap as much as they do promoting "change".

Because the Muslim crap is only believed by total braindead, complete f**king idiots who'll believe any lie and will never vote for Obama anyway?

anything he could do to 'stop' it would merely give it more attention.

That's simply not true.

the John Kerry argument.  WEll, I could see it making more sense here, however.

I think hes explained plenty of times that he isnt a muslim and honestly I dont see what else you could really do in this situation. Clinton has already tried attacking him on the subject, and its backfired. Its true that if people are still believing it are completely out of the loop....but its such a low amount of people now that it shouldnt effect anything.
