At least not if he's smart. Forget Crist, forget DeMint, forget Jindal (especially him). Here's why:

Obviously, McCain wants to use the experience issue against Obama. But how can he do so with a comparable running mate? Imagine a McCain/Crist ticket. Crist would be even more inexperienced than Obama. McCain attacks Obama on experience. Obama can just reply: "Look at your running mate. I have more than him." How can McCain respond? He can't just say "That's a different office." There's a very realistic chance the VP will take over and become President and let's face it: It's more likely to happen with McCain than Obama. If a person isn't qualified to be President, why should they be qualified to be VP? The VP candidate is not just a "bonus" to the ticket as political junkies often end up thinking. It's someone with a very realistic chance of taking over.

For McCain to pick any of the people listed above or anyone else taking office after 2004 would be sacrificing one of his top talking points.

this is why he'll pick Rudy Giuliani. Sanford has been a governor since 2002. He really can't pick someone more experience than him. Rice would be the only name that comes to mind, but I doubt he picks anyone tied to the Bush administration.

Obama will pick an experienced VP, and thereby innoculate himself against this.  It'll be an Obama the visionary, VP the veteran campaign.

Biden is the best possible choice for Obama, IMHO.  Hits every single demographic, position, and policy issue that Obama is vulnerable on.

Charlie Crist is a Governor.  When Obama was dealing with traffic signals, license plates, and resolutions acknowleding honor roll students in the... city council... board of aldermen.. condo residents board... Illinois state legislature.....four years ago; , Charlie was the Attorney General of one of the largest states.  There is no comparison, Crist is more experienced.

THe voters do not care about 'experience', fellows.  They care about their 'impressions', so the reason Biden works is he looks and seems like the elder statesman.  This doesn't work with Guiliani because he's crazier and more ridiculous than McCain.

That may be true, but I doubt they want a complete novice running the show, either. Biden could solve that, but the dems would have no vp to run for president in 8 years.

But of course, obama supporters know more about the voters than Republicans will ever know.

I'm just saying that the last thing old man McCain needs is a VP to give the impression of experience - what he needs is youth and normality.   Some boring not-to-old governor like Sandford or Paulenti is just the thing.
