WASHINGTON - Early in Senator John McCain’s first run for the White House eight years ago, waves of anxiety swept through his small circle of advisers.

A female lobbyist had been turning up with him at fund-raisers, in his offices and aboard a client’s corporate jet. Convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened to protect the candidate from himself — instructing staff members to block the woman’s access, privately warning her away and repeatedly confronting him, several people involved in the campaign said on the condition of anonymity.

Yeah, not a romantic relationship by any strech, but certainly a lobbyist needed to be pushed away from the type of campaign McCain ran in 2000.

The real significance of this is that the New York Times is reminding McCain that they hold other material on him from eight years ago.

As a secondary matter, it is designed (temporarily) to assist McCain in trying to mute conservative opposition to his candidacy.  After all, being criticized by the New York Times, is a signal honor.

Sad the NY Times has sunk to nothing more than a tabloid paper for the far-left. No named sources at all, and they are just rehashing a ten year old story.
