Here's an interesting fact: Since Super Tuesday, Obama has done better than McCain. Even with the GOP race over, McCain has yet to break 60%.

What does that show? That the conservative base still has issues with McCain. They haven't exactly lined up behind him just yet.

Huckabee stays in until McCain mathematically clinches the nomination. Then he has a talk with him. He points out how strong he did even after McCain all but locked it up and points out what this means, then says if McCain wants to satisfy conservatives he might be a good VP pick.

McCain only goes for it if he's dumb, but it's probably what Huckabee is trying to do. Expose McCain's problems with the base.

That could be the case. Huckabee certainly hasn't gone out swinging against McCain and they seem to get on. I think it's probable that he's hoping to pick up the VP spot.

Alternatively, he wants to stick around long enough that people remember him as having "come in 2nd" (as opposed to Romney), in the hopes that this'll help him in 2012.

That's probably reason #2, much like why Edwards stuck around until the old Super Tuesday in 2004.

No, it's reason No #1. Huckabee is already running for President... for 2012.
