Out of those two options, freedom fighter, but his supporters are a mix of both.

FF.

Also, oh noes at Obama being a worldly person! Clearly our next president needs to be a backwoods, ethnocentric redneck.

A redneck as President is an idea I sort of like. Though a worldly fella would make a change as well.

Kind of (though in some ways towards the upper tier anyway), but he'd sort-of left the caste.

Then what is patriot to you? Back up statements with some substance. I know Obama supporters aren't used to hearing or doing that.

Look, I'm sorry for being rude, but why don't you back your allegations with some sort of substance? You can't say Obama is unpatriotic just because he spent first grade in another country, because he doesn't wear a certain piece of jewelery, or because of something his wife was misquoted as saying. Such reasoning is just shallow and pointless.

Considering that the man's beliefs are entirely based in doing what he thinks is best for America, only some sort of hack would assume he doesn't love his country. The burden of proof is on you to somehow show he's unpatriotic, which you haven't really done at all.

Wife was misquoted? She was shown on TV saying it. How is that being misquoted?

First off, could you please respond to all of what I said rather than simply ignoring what you can't easily rebut? I'd like to at least understand where you're coming from here.

He's a very charismatic, far-left democrat. His popularity shows that American politics is very rarely about policy, and usually more a contest of personalities. Of course, in international relations, charisma can be a very valuable tool.

I am speaking in terms of the general election. Do you honestly believe that argument you make about Obama being patriotic is going to fly with the general public. They are going to see that he refuses to wear a flag pin and his wife said this is the first time she is proud of her country in her adult lifetime and immediately say his family isn't crazy about America.

You people really think that everyone thinks like you, don't you? Most people won't say "well, let's see what patriotism really is" and go from there.

These are obviously ridiculous labels.

But Obama, other than lacking experience and -- how do I put this without Democrats jumping on me? I probably can't -- not being a patriotic person, just rubs me the wrong way. Having just listened to about an hour of the audiobook Audacity of Hope, he feels like a sardonic elitist who takes life as a cosmic joke. No, thank you.

With all due respect, "I know how Americans think and you don't" is just a silly allegation. His wife's quote is a non-issue, as I showed earlier. Also, few people even care if a politician carries around a pin of a little flag on their chest, and the few that do would never vote Democratic anyway.

Your method as a whole is a bit confusing here. Are you arguing that you don't think Obama is patriotic or that the American people won't think Obama is patriotic? Because it seems that although first you attempted the former, you were unable to express such an opinion and now resort to just saying "oh the american people won't think so anyway lol," which is essentially a cop-out.

I have a highly positive opinion of the senator. Modest and unassuming as he is I must admit that those are qualities I find very admirable in politicians

It's because he's not.  Not in the true sense.  He's just a nationalist and a racist (to fair, only in an ignorant way, not in a particularly mean way).

well, AHDuke99, I've retired from the business of explaining to people what 'left-wing' actually means.  if you'd like, go look up some of my (and a few others') posts on the matter (or even the thread, 'is the Democratic Party of the USA a left- or right-wing organization?'  it's in the Individual Politics board.)  but for now, I'll just tell you, opebo is right.  either trust me and move along, or do some research on your own on the matter.  (or do neither and stay sheltered, which may be easier, but in the end, less beneficial.)
