... is the only county in the state that has never voted for Barack Obama, either in primary or general contests.

2004 (Democratic Primary, US Senate)

Daniel Hynes: 38 percent
Blair Hull: 34 percent
Barack Obama: 17 percent
Others: 9 percent

2004 (General Election, US Senate)

Alan Keyes (R): 52 percent
Barack Obama (D): 46 percent

2008 (Democratic Primary, US President)

Hillary Clinton: 51 percent
Barack Obama: 42 percent
John Edwards: 6 percent

Bush won 62 percent there in 2004; any bets on what Obama would finish with?

What a horrible, horrible county. Who picks Alan Keyes and Hillary Clinton over Barack Obama?

by the way, i noticed that the honorable alan keyes did better in the maryland primary than he did in the illinois primary.

i hope he took note of that and is planning another senate race in maryland.  Smiley

I'm sure whoever runs to replace Barbara Mikulski would appreciate it.

I meant that she's probably retiring.

I still am confused as to how Obama did not carry every county over Keyes.

Isn't Massac County basically an exurb of Paducah, Kentucky?

There's a lot of right-wing activist types in that area now, because about 10 years ago, one really right-wing family purchased the Paducah newspaper and several of the TV and radio stations. That's what led up to some of the problems in that area now.
