I expect after Obama rids the world of poverty and fixes every problem America has, he'll be elected to a life term until he dies. Just my guess.
We can only hope, my friend.

I hope Obama is our President as long as Castro was for Cuba.

McCain will serve one term. My early prediction is that he'll either lose in 2012 or hand the GOP nomination to Pawlenty/Sanford.

I'd say there's a greater then 50 percent shot that our next president will be a one termer, especially if it's John McCain. But Even Obama or Clinton could be vulnerable, mainly because I expect the economy to worsen and I remain pessimistic that anyone can solve those woes. However, I’m not willing to bet my own life on this.

Historically speaking it seems highly unlikely that POTUS 44 will serve 2 complete terms.  There haven't been 3 Presidents who each served 2 complete terms since Jefferson/Madison/Monroe.  And considering the volatile state of the country who becomes POTUS will have to make some tough decisions which are bound to alienate some.

If I were to make any prediction (and be completely wrong), I would tend to agree with this.  However, one might say the 1952-1976 *should have been* that scenario, but I wonder about 1964 if Kennedy doesn't get killed.

But the phenomenon Wakie brings up is complicated by deaths and resignations (Nixon) and running for more than 2 terms (FDR). Now, three parties holding the Presidency for 8 years isn't that rare as three presidents. I don't think there's necessarily anything historical preventing 44 from being re-elected, though there may be something historical that would make it more likely for 44 to resign or die or not run again.

All I was saying is that it is historically improbable.  Perhaps we get McCain in office and he has a heart attack.  Maybe we get Obama and some white supremicist takes a shot at him.  Maybe its Hillary and in 4 years the GOP mount a strong comeback campaign and beat her.

Historically tragedies, scandals, and poor performing Presidents strike at least once every 24 years.
