What if Al Gore had picked John Kerry as his running mate instead of Joe Lieberman? Would it have made a difference?

Hard to say.  I could see Kerry swinging New Hampshire, but I'm not sure.

Nothing much really. I guess Florida goes to Bush by 2% margin maybe, and New Hampshire posisbly flips. Kerry brings not a single thing to the ticket

If he flips New Hampshire, then Gore wins the election.

Ok,

The Dems get a much smaller boost from the convention and they fail to make up the ground. Nader get a few fewer votes but Bush gets many more independents. I'm going to be really charitable and assume that having a running mate from MA (rather than CT) is going to help the ticket that much and give NH to Gore.

but.... instead of Gore beating Bush by 48.4 to 47.9, Bush beats Gore 51.9 to 47.4. Bush does better in the Midwest and the swing states taking ME, WI, MN, MA, IA & PA.

Gore would probably have performed more poorly in the jewish communities in southern Florida, and thus lost the state more solidly to Bush. I think Kerry's presence on the ticket would have solidified totals in Oregon and New Hampshire. Ultimately, Gore wins...again.

same map.  FL is less close.  Gore breaks 60% in MA.  that's about it.
