Currently, for the first time in a long time, I think Obama is most likely to become President.  Still under 50% chance, but plurality.

The race will most likely boil down between McCain and Obama.  Depending on if Obama can get a great cast of coaches to get him up to speed on International issues while refining the finances behind his domestic policies, he might be able to nudge out McCain.  For the most part, all the people really know about Obama is that he is a fantastic speaker and is full of hope.  That will carry a good deal of voters to the polls, but the difference will the be ones who are looking for substance.  And if he can't provide the substance without resorting to his lofty speaking skills to talk around it, he will lose.  On the other hand, if McCain panders too far to the right in order to keep a rather tiny segment of the conservative base happy, he risks losing his hold of the independents and will lose.

I actually right now think Obama. Clinton's chances are really low, imo, because even if she does get the nomination she will, at this point, be pretty damaged for the general. Obama has a very good chance at the nomination and I could actually see him beat McCain, even though I think the current numbers are misleading.

But it's a narrow plurality since Clinton can't be counted out.

The only way McCain beats Obama is if there is a major international crisis prior to the election. (e.g. Iran attacks a US aircraft carrier)

Well, mathematically, I'd give the generic Dem candidate a 60% chance of winning in 2008, and the Republican a 40%. Since McCain has basically a 100% chance of winning the nomination, he has a 40% chance of winning the presidency. I'd give Obama a 60% chance of winning the Dem nomination, with 40% for Clinton, giving me the following numbers:

McCain 40%
Obama 36%
Clinton 24%

I still voted for Obama though.

In the darkest parts of my mind, I know it will be McCain.

I don't believe that anything will stop Billary from winning the nomination on the Dem side.  Look for a brokered convention full of shady, backroom deals--Florida and Michigan are given seating, and superdelegates break sharply for Clinton.  A fractured party limps out of the convention.

Clinton was a flawed candidate to begin with, and the Republicans unite against her, behind McCain.  Look for voting irregularities in a swing state to guarantee the election for McCain.

I really hope that Obama wins the presidency, but I've been disappointed too many times previously to expect too much.  It's better to expect the worst.

I have a feeling it will be McCain, which wouldn't be too bad, but Obama would be better.

voted Obama, but it's close between he and McCain.

I don't think Hillary can win the presidency anymore, but I'm not dismissing her chances to win the nomination.  it's just that it'd take her until August to steal the nom. and she'd piss off enough of the Dem base and enough Obamaites to lose in Dukakisesque fashion to McCain.

Who knows at this point.  Way too hard to predict.

As for Obama, he's okay I guess.  I wish he would just change his name to something American.

Yeah...like Giuliani or Tancredo.

McCain.

In the end, America will elect the candidate with credible national security credentials.

America does not turn over the leadership of the free world, and the most powerful political office, to a young, first term Senator.

I wouldn't be surprised if the American people do that on November 4. But that's my personal opinion.
