I'm almost disappointed in myself for caring so much.  since I know enough to know he can't singlehandedly save us from the depths of Hell.  but he makes you think that he can, I suppose...

I agree Tweed.  My original plan was to support the joke candidates and make snide remarks about the frontrunners from the sidelines.

But for some reason I am convinced that this man is now the only way to stop the horror of Hillary Clinton.  Hopefully it works out.

I've found myself becoming a little too ready to rebut Clinton arguments and too slow to point out fallacious pro-Obama arguments.  I'm really not a hack, but I care enough about the race that it affects things.  Which is unfortunate.  I guess...

I'm almost disappointed in myself for caring so much.  since I know enough to know he can't singlehandedly save us from the depths of Hell.  but he makes you think that he can, I suppose...

He gives you wood, does he?  Yeah, I guess it's the same for me.  Funny thing, too, since I'm a Registered Republican.  At least you have an excuse.  I started liking him back around April.  He was so fresh.  Talking like a boy wondering out loud, rather than a seasoned political hack.  Spoke at UAW rallies about fuel efficiency standards.  Can you imagine?  It really was refreshing.  Then in July when we moved to Cedar Falls and there was that big Obama08 headquarters on University Avenue about a mile from my house, I just kept getting the constant daily reminder on my way to take my son to his preschool.  I visited that on the way to my GOP caucus, you know.  You must, I posted of it at length.  Some of 'em were nice, but the bitch in charge--tight sweater, perky but overworked and overstressed--kinda made me stop taking photos.  "You an Obama Supporter?  Are you lookin' for your precinct caucus location?"  "um, naw, I'm a registered republican and I intend to caucus for Ron Paul.  He's coming to Cedar Falls tonight, you know.  I want to meet him.  But I kinda like Obama too."  "Well, we'd really appreciate if you'd stop taking pictures of everything.  And I think you need to go."  (yeah, and you really need to get laid, bitch.  You're hot, but you stay way too busy politicking.  Get a life)  Thought, but not said.

Oh, now there's a "Just for Kids" at that location.  Glad I went when I did.  I'm sure it closed up a few days after the caucus.  Well, stressed and busy though they were, I think the hard work paid off.  Obama won this county easily.  A tribute to that perky bitch who threw me out, undoubtedly.

There's no real magic wand a president has to make your stocks worth more, or give you a new car or give your child a better education.  These things require some luck and lots of effort on your part.  Obama seems to understand that the average voter understands all this.  So he's not constantly insulting your intelligence like the rest of them do.  I kinda hope Obama totally slams Hillary.  I hope he says there's not way I'll be your veep unless you promise to keep Bill out of the white house for the entire first term.  Then I hope she says, "Okay"  Then I hope he says, "psyche!  no way I'm your veep bitch."  Then I hope he goes on to win the nomination and farts in her general direction.  Then I hope he trounces that asshole McCain in the general election.  Then I hope he starts listening to Ron Paul and encourages contraction of the Big Brother state.  Then I hope...   Well, that's the thing, isn't it.  Hope.  That's his whole campaign.  He gets you to hope.  I guess it's working.

We'll see.  There's at least one Iowa Republican you can count on to vote for Obama, if your party has enough sense to nominate him, that is.

You think that's embarrassing...

Here's the secret that has been gnawing away at me for three months now and making me question my entire worldview.

Though there is no way I would ever vote for the man...

I just melt when I see Mike Huckabee on TV.

I don't get it.  At first I thought it was an ironic thing, then I thought it was because he had a legitimate shot at ruining the GOP for a generation, and then...

I think the flat tax is loony and the idea of a creationist in the White House changing the Constitution to meet God's standards makes me shudder and recoil but...

Let me put it this way.  I'm glad he won't be the GOP nominee, because I'd hate voting against him.

Can someone tell me what's wrong with me?  Is there a backwoods evangelical lurking in the recesses of my dark liberal soul?

What, exactly is so bad about Clinton that people find here?

1. extramartial affairs - not her fault. Besides, the personal lives of politicians should not be significant anyway.
2. supposed corruption - hundreds of millions of dollars of investigations and nothing turns up
3. "support" of the war in Iraq - with just about an overwhelming majority of all Americans and most Democrats. She could not have stopped the war. Had she been President though, it is highly doubtful that the war would have happened. For a candidacy that is supposedly focused on the future, Obama's campaign seems awfully bent on the past.

I supported Obama when he announced his bid almost a year ago. I was a strong Obama supporter but I also liked Hillary.....well up until December. I remember thinking, If Clinton makes it then I'll happily support her and campaign for her all the way. Now, she just rubs me the wrong way all the time and I guess that has even made me a bigger Obama supporter. I don't have high expectations for the man. I mean, after getting this idiot out It'll be a good breath of fresh air to have someone not totally incompetent and respects the rule of law.

maybe.  maybe not.

I just read an interesting FOX News/Opinion dynamics poll that showed that Obama manages to pull in about 10% of Republicans to McCain's 80% in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup.  Among Democrats, Obama receives 74% and McCain 18%; and among "independents" Obama receives 41% and McCain 37%.  With Clinton, the Republicans favor McCain 86% to 7%, the Democrats favor Clinton 79% to 15%, and the independents favor McCain 42% to 38%.  The poll was taken January 30 and 31 and includes Romney matchups as well, but it doesn't seem relevant here.  Paul becomes irrelevant here as well, so I needn't address your specific comment regarding Ron Paul.

The point is that more Republicans and indedpendents favor McCain against Clinton than against Obama.  So, yes, there is statistical evidence that my proclivities are representative of a centrist swing voter, at least in the context of this thread, which is about Obama, not Ron Paul.

So she did what was easy rather than what was right. Wonderful. Exactly what I want in a President. Smacks of McKinley and the Spanish-American War (though at least that was competently executed).

I feel the same way. I disagree with him on nearly everything but he's very charming. I always get the impression that he is a decent human being, which is a vibe I don't get from many politicians.

No, not at all, actually.  I like Huckabee more than any other Republican on a personal level.  I just wish his beliefs and positions weren't so crazy.

Excellent rebuttal, angus.

I'm not sure how important polls are at this point, since both possible matchups produce somewhat similar results, but I agree with the notion that Obama does better among independents while Clinton does better among Democrats. I do feel that Clinton's better keeping of traditional blue collar Democrats in states like West Virginia is a huge asset. On the other hand Obama's appeal to independents and youth is as well. Republicans are a wild card.
