Dude, have you ever been to DU? It's basically the internet equivalent of Stalinist Russia. Not only do they frequently "disappear" people there but once they do it's forbidden to talk about them and you have to basically pretend they never existed. There's a strictly enforced blanket ban on supporting non-Democrats (express support for any candidate who is not a Democrat, and you are banned, the end.) They also do it for things like running blogs or other websites that are critical of DU. This is nothing new.

And the scary part is that you think that is a good thing.

Sorry, but when DailyKos becomes basically the arm of one person's political campaign, it is no longer a true town hall of discussion. It is the left-wing version of Free Republic; in fact, a diary to that effect was recommended a while back. But like the consumptive eater who cannot keep a diet, acknowledging the fact does not change it. The DKos has become the worst of democracy: an echo-chamber and lynch mob that no longer respects dissent. Troll rating abuse on the site has become rampant and unchecked. Minority voices are marginalized. Any break with liberal/DKos orthodoxy is not tolerated. The same posters get recc'd again and again on the basis of formulaic, campaign diaries.

Markos should be rethinking the site that he created, but he'll probably just run with it.

Very true.  Dailykos consistently attacked Obama and Clinton when Edwards was still in contention (before Iowa).  Many a times I attempted to post diaries about Obama's greatness but I eventually gave up after they were flooded with Edwards propaganda and Obama insults.  Until this primary is over I'm basically done blogging on either mydd or dailykos, because any attempt to support an opposing candidate will be met with an army of morons who stifle any attempt to express a dissenting opinion. 

Yeah the Edwards people were dominating there last year. I can't believe how uncritically I looked at that site for a while. All I can say is, I appreciate their passion and energy, but I hope that they remain marginalized in the Democratic party as a whole, because there is far too much rigidity and intolerance there.

Unfortunately mydd is getting worse than dailykos ever was.  It pisses me off how I can't say one thing that's pro-Obama without getting 4000 insults thrown my way.

Here are some priceless gems:

"Clinton has more crossover appeal than Obama ever will."

"Are you high?  Independents would never go for Obama over McCain... but Hillary definitely would"

These people need to put down the Hillary kool-aid and open up the site for more political discussion.

DailyKos has about 15 times the Internet share as mydd.

Oh I completely agree.   I'm just saying that it's a shame mydd has become a site for Clinton propaganda and all political discussion has been eliminated. 

And I'm just saying that it's perfectly natural for people who are marginalized from the main site to find somewhere else to congregate, and then you will see the exact same kind of group behavior on a smaller scale. That is the problem with sites like those why they should always be checked by opposing forces, or at least keep each other in check.

I don't know why this is surprising, this always happens to Internet political cults.

Truthfully, it happened to Free Republic as well during the 2000 primaries - there was a significant period of that site being anti-Bush during late-1999 and early-2000, in support of "real right-wing" candidates.  As McCain became the enemy, it slowly switched back to Bush and then supported him wholeheartedly after the nomination was won.  This is a sign now that I'm getting too old. 

Anyway, what will happen (for Democrats hopefully) is that once this is over, they'll all unite behind the Democrat.  If he/she is elected, they will support them wholeheartedly, until some become unhappy with the policies and infighting reins again.  Usually, this type of support creates laziness as well in development - we'll see.

Markos doesn't really care about the site now - it's done its job, pushing him into some type of national prominence.  Even if it becomes ridiculous and dies somehow (and it probably won't, to a certain extent), he'll still have that, which is all he really cares about.

That seems rather extreme. DailyKos keeps around its Clinton supporters, even if a lot of them are rather obnoxious. There are probably more Clinton supporters on DailyKos than mydd, it's just that DailyKos is a much bigger site.

mydd.com jumped the shark. It's sad because I used to enjoy reading things on the site but the Clintonites now rule there with an iron fist. dailykos seemed to have shifted from pro-Edwards to pro-Obama but the Clinton people are still allowed to have their say.
