Huckabee needs to accept already that he lost the nomination, dragging on with this (especially with lawyers) isn't going to make anyone happy.

If he thinks he's been gypped out of a win anywhere, even if it's too late to win the nomination, then why should he care about making the party machine and party hacks happy?

So by that logic, anyone who loses the nomination of any party should do all they can to screw the party over...because they didn't win.  Nice.

uh, what? where did Al say that, exactly?

*RNC guy calls up Washington GOP guy*

RNC Guy: Hey you know it'd look really bad if our anointed nominee and savior McCain went 0 for 3 today. You got to make sure he takes Washington at least.
WAGOP Guy: Well I can't make sure, Huckabee is coming a bit too close...
RNC: Well you could just stop counting early once McCain has a lead and then say he's won right? Then maybe you could "adjust" the remaining totals a bit to ensure he pulls it out.
WAGOP: Hmmm, yeah I think we can. Alright, I'll get to it.

News is widely circulating that the Washington GOP may be burying the results because, while McCain probably received the most sign-in votes, Ron Paul may have won the most delegates.

Yes, you heard it here first:  Ron Paul may have carried the state of Washington.

By "news is widely circulating," of course, I mean unsubstantiated crap is circulating and I just confirmed that it is possible.

Lookeehere.  Paul filled nearly all of his delegate slots, while McCain supporters left en masse before the delegate vote.  Since it's the delegate vote that counts in carrying the state, that's what I'll focus on.

Clark County sign-in votes:

29% Huckabee
23.5% McCain
23% Paul
22% Romney

Now, because lots of McCain people left and they had unfilled delegate seat, the delegate count sent McCain from a strong #2 to #4, and sent Paul straight to #1:

224 Paul
211 Huckabee
184 Romney
151 McCain

Extrapolate this across the entire state, a Paul victory is not only possible.  I'd say that a Paul victory is, by plurality, more likely than a McCain or Huckabee victory.

In other words:  Holy crap.

That would officially make Washington WalterMitty's least favorite state considering its vote in BOTH caucuses.

Curious...

But we still don't know what results the state GOP is releasing - straw poll or delegate count, right?

Right.

If it's delegates, maybe Huckabee has some obscure complaints.

But if it's straw poll results...I don't believe I will ever, ever stop laughing.

What little, tiny respect I had for the Washington State Republican Party has completely vanished. This is absolutely hilarious.

At least the Bush campaign waited until the general election to steal elections.

It is worth mentioning that the Washington State GOP would be a serious contender for most pathetic and incompetent state party in the entire nation.

You'd have to be a really strong contender for that in order to beat the Illinois GOP.

Actually this is one contest that the WV GOP might actually win...

The MA GOP is a total joke.

Only in the sense of not being able to win elections, not in the sense of being fully and totally incompetent and terrible on every level.

Is it just me, or is Washington where Republicans go to complain about discrepencies in the voting process.

In defense of crazy Huckabee, it is pretty suspicious what their McCain endorsing state chair did.

I'm going to laugh when Rossi loses another gubernatorial election by 200 or so votes because of a poor showing amongst the deceased. Tongue

It doesn't actually determine so many delegates. 18 of the 37 delegates were determined by this caucus, the other 19 being from the primary. Each of the 9 districts is winner take all, with 3 delegates, and statewide there are 10 delegates, also winner take all. I have no idea how that break down of the 37 delegates matches up with the 18/19 caucus/primary split.

Alright I'll spell it out for you.  So say Huckabee thinks he's "gypped" in trying to win the nomination.  Because he's been "gypped" he doesn't care about "making the party machine happy," thus through his actions in staying in the race further dividing the party (hence the "screwing over")

If Huckabee actually believed there was legitimate cause for concern, would it really be better for him to just smile and accept the result?

You've made it so obvious, Mr. Fresh!! i don't know how I ever thought he might be a little annoyed at being robbed of a potential win!

He should go and kneel before McCain and deliver him all of his delegates along with a bouquet of flowers.

Newt Gingrich won a delegate to the King County convention.

Things just get better and better!
