How the hell do you pick a mostly rural/suburban state over a state with big cities like Tampa, Miami, Jacksonville (oh wait, I forgot that they're mostly "fascist")?

Florida would be hell on earth to me. The climate, the general political sentiment (lots of Democrats, but that doesn't result in common sense management of the state), lots of old people = lots of old drivers, having to fear a hurricane every summer and the insane cost of living/sales taxes. Oh yeah it's illegal to buy 40 ozs there.

Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Des Moines and the Quad Cities would all certainly be far more tolerable. And Iowa does have decent strip clubs from what I hear. But I basically made this thread just to say that Florida sucks.

Oh and Florida has WAY more suburbs than Iowa.

Yeah, I don't like the hurricane threat either.

Oh, so you're a real piece of trash and enjoy 40's eh? Gangsta. Pop bottles.

Des Moines is nice but it's a medium sized city in the middle of no where. Just not my type.

Florida. Specifically, in the Gainesville area. I love that city.

Iowa.  I've lived in Florida and I currently live right across the river from Iowa.  I know both states well and it's Iowa by far.  Hurricanes suck.  Old people suck.  Tourists suck.  Red necks suck.  Retired New Yorkers suck.  Spring break sucks.  Sure corn is boring, but it doesn't suck.

Have you ever lived in a city that had a Spring Break?  I lived in Panama City (not Panama City Beach thank the gods) and it sucked.  Believe it or not, not everybody loves to be surrounded by drunk, 20 year old half wits from the midwest and northeast.  Sure it's fun to make fun of them for awhile, but eventually the traffic and ignorance become to much.

Plus I was married at the time so nailing drunk co-eds was out of the question.

I could live in Ft. Lauderdale for the rest of my life I think.  Screw snow, ice, and endless boring fields.  I'll take a nice beach with the risk of occasional hurricanes any day.  Politics usually aren't a make-or-break issue for me when deciding where to live, and both these states are swing states anyway.

Iowa. I prefer to spend spring break (even though it's in February!) in Canada. Although, one year I did go to Virginia, but that was to build houses Smiley

Hmm.. both are just awful choices.  I have a feeling Iowa would be a less annoying place overall, but I'll vote Florida as it has in certain cities some of the best street scenes in the country.

There's more prostitutes in Iowa than you think. I think I might've even seen one in Mason City past midnight, which is hardly a huge city. I've heard reports that there are tons of streetwalkers in Sioux City too.

I find your post very encouraging, BRTD!  They must be fairly wrapped up this time of year.  But yes, there is demand for the most obvious profession everywhere there is a male person who has a few bucks.

I like living close to salt-water, but I am not thrilled about being surrounded by swamps.  Still, I have to give the nod to Florida.

I have lots of relatives in Florida, so that's a plus for there. On the other hand I think it would be too hot for me during summer. It's a tossup really.

My sentiments have already been summed up in this thread; old people, horrible weather, hurricanes, and bad social policies. Throw in high crime rates and tourism...and you have yourself a bowl of sh**t the size of Florida.

Iowa was my favorite state as a kid.  Then I went there.

Florida (normal)

Florida

The heat and humidity would drive me insane, but I would endure it to stay there over Iowa.

iowa, probably.   i like rural areas, even though i live in a big city.

i was also going to say that i dislike heat and humidity.  then it dawned on me that it gets hotter in iowa than it does florida.  and believe it or not, some of the highest dewpoints in the us have been recorded in iowa.  apparently corn sweats, which adds a lot of moisture to the air.
