Yes, as were all the candidates who've dropped out.

Does anyone have any solid exit poll figures?  Because I'm just hearing stuff from all over the place...from Edwards winning the white vote to Edwards on the verge of falling below 15%.

Actually Obama will be in the mid 50s....that'll be enough to make him the new frontrunner.

If the exit poll is correct then Obama did have a fairly decent showing among whites and one that was far better than expected in South Carolina.

Don't be too optimistic.

I doubt that. Nothing tonight could make him the frontrunner short of beating Clinton among whites. A victory like that would at least give him something of a fighting chance, however.

...which is why it would be a good thing from the point of view of us election junkies.

Obama leads in Pickens County, which was Bush's strongest county in 2004 and overwhelmingly white.

Hillary fans and Obamamaniacs better get out the tissues.  Hillary fans for their tears, Obamamaniacs for the huge load they are sure to shoot later tonight.

You used the word "competitive".

I agree with Clyburn.  This is going all the way to the convention.
I don't agree with Clyburn that it will be good for the party.

The Republicans will have their contest wrapped up long before then, so they will be licking their chops.

I'd qualify his showing among whites as fairly competetive and he may have done even better than the exit polls are showing.

What is going on with the lack of complete exit poll releases? It's irritating me.

I'll believe it when I see it.  She has such a huge advantage right now going into 2/5.

Yes, I am happy, but at the same time I'm concerned that the Democrats will keep fighting all the way to the late August convention and weaken the eventual nominee enough that he or she will be destroyed in November.

Spin (and pointless spin at that).

He may have done, yes. But at the time you made the remark that I objected to there were just exit poll stuff to go on.

Clinton's leading in Lexington County, another overwhelmingly white county (Bush's second-strongest in 2004).
