No, they mean the current President of the United States. It was a very competitive field though.

Not surprised: anyone still supporting Bush is probably severely brainwashed.

When Americans think of public figures they most admire, do politicians really come to mind?

A random selection of very, very stupid people. Like most polls and surveys.

Sitting Presidents tend to usually come on top in these polls.

So many people worthy of selection before Bush or Hillary.  Kinda sad.

Where did Dave Leip come in on the list?  ;-)

They have came out on top every single year since Gallup started doing these polls. The fact that Bush just barely came in first is pretty hilarious.

Definitely a sign of how unpopular he is, and how deep that unpopularity runs, even among conservatives and Republicans.

I was impressed that 2% managed to remember Benazir Bhutto (perhaps the survey came at the height of the Pakistani political crisis).

Anyway... what would your choices be? I immediately thought of Aung San Suu Kyi as my "most admired woman", but I can't settle on a "most admired man". The Dalai Lama is a good choice, but there are plenty of others, too.

I would definitely pick the current Dalai Lama as my most admired man.  Most admired woman, I'm not so sure about.

I suspect if they asked for "least admired persons," the same two would come out on top.

I like how the first-place finisher for both sexes was some whiny rich kid who sailed through life without any serious hardships while the second-place finisher was an extraordinarily gifted person who pulled himself/herself by his/her bootstraps.

I guess the average American thinks that being born rich is more admirable than starting out at the bottom & fighting your way to the top.

It's amazing how many votes sh**tty politicians got. I mean there really are more admirable people than these low life scum.
