The way the past few presidential elections have been going, recall 2000 had Iowa in early February, 2004 had them in mid-January, and 2008 will have them barely after New Year's Day, the question comes to my mind, will we see primaries starting in December in the future, possibly 2012?  2016?  Or will the parties be smart and leave the "holiday month" alone?

I really am hoping they realize what a horrendous idea it was this time around to have them in January even.  Really the primary season doesn't need to start more than 6 months before the conventions.  Hopefully some sort of reform will happen as a result of the craziness this time around and we'll be having March primaries in 2012.

No. As far as this primary season is concerned, we got Jan 3rd for the first state because crossing the New Year threshold would've made the issue real enough for people to demand change. As long as it's the year of the actual election, they can get away with this hella early primary bs.

No, I personally think that both parties will agree on some primary plan (maybe regional primary, interregional primary, Delaware plan, etc.)
