The dems successfully manage a populist-liberal alliance and the GOP's leaders aren't smart enough to merge in moderates/semi-libertarians.

Any Democrat winning a huge landslide would have a real shot at that map, especially if they were from the South.

Although the percentages don't really make sense in some areas....Virginia or Florida being far more Democratic than Vermont, for one.

We have an even more WASP GOP than we have now and a populist dem party. That's the only way I could see it.

It may be a stupid idea but you get women, latins and afroamericans voting at the same rate WASPs do and youŽll have a result pretty similar to that one.

Romney/Douglas
vs.
Richardson/Bredesen

Romney has a horrible campaign after managing to piss off moderates, the south, and hispanics in a series of incredibly damaging gaffes/scandals/attacks. Richardson is even endorsed by many Republican officials in the eastern and some midwestern states. In the final week of the campaign, Douglas almost swings VT after announcing he'd openly support Romney's impeachment if his ticket was elected.
