Undoubtedly it would be pretty popular among Republicans, but considerably less so among independents, and extremely unpopular among Democrats.

Trump has already demanded that the US-Canadian border be re-drawn.

From his perspective, it makes a lot of sense to attack Canada and generally be hostile towards Canada. That's because Canada's relationship to the USA is analagous to Ukraine's relationship with Russia. Canada is culturally similar to the US, but smaller and weaker, similarly to how Ukraine is culturally similar to Russia but smaller than weaker.

If Trump attacks Canada, then it becomes more difficult for people to criticize Putin for Russia's aggression against Ukraine. If USA militarily attacks Canada, then people will start saying "Russia didn't do anything unusual by attacking Ukraine - that's just what great powers do to their smaller neighbors, as we can see by the fact that the USA is doing the same thing."

This would be very much in Putin's interest and a great propaganda coup for Russia, and therefore is a very attractive proposition for Trump.

It would further destroy the rules based international order which has prevented major great power war over the past 80 years, and replace it with a lawless rules of the jungle world.

Low 40s, and that's among those who will even know it's happening.

Seems reasonable, though I'd say more than half of Republicans.

It’ll be whatever Trumps approval rating is on the day he invades, if you’ve backed him until now this won’t be the deal breaker.

Exactly.

We have OSR still backing him despite Ukraine and Jan 6 pardons.

If Trump invades Canada none of his current supporters will leave him.

It wouldn't be the invasion that would kill his approval in the weird hypothetical. It would be the years of occupation, protest, guerilla and wildcat strikes, probably some bombings and assaults inside the lower 48, and constant action into the vast hinterlands where there would be no US control other than by satellite and occasional helicopter. Similar to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Vietnam in that regard, only much closer to home so S**t would turn sour much, much, more quickly.

Americans just don't costly ever-present (rather than ignorable) conflicts - WWII is the one historical exception. The divestment from conflicts is arguably a constant part of Trump's appeal, especially in the Midwest.

Republicans like the tariffs on Canada as they think they rariffs will hurt Trudeau and somehow help conservatives to win the next election.

Republicans like canadian truckers and they think canadian conservatives would like to be anexed.
If an invasion starts and those truckers become guerilla men, republicans may start becoming sympathetic to their side

~40%

Republicans would immediately go from "don't by hysterical, Trump would never do somethingas stupid as invading Canada, he's just kidding" to "hell yeah, I support the war, and if you don't, you hate America".

low-mid 20s overall, about 2/3 of Rs, ~ 1/5 of Is (mostly low info R voters) and less than 5% of Ds

As time goes on I expect it'd stay about the same nationally but go down with Is and up with Rs
