Quote
The estimated 1.1 million food insecure Michiganians may be more at risk if federal programs that keep the state's food pantries stocked aren't quickly reinstated, a statewide food resource network said Thursday.

The Food Bank Council of Michigan said food banks plan their budgets based on expected funding and are now facing "major gaps in supply," which will have a significant impact on the organizations' ability to serve families in need. Issues with one program are keeping nearly $3.7 million worth of meat and other products from making it to outreach shelves. The funding gap comes amid the Trump administration's federal downsizing and funding freeze.

This sounds so silly, but hundreds of thousands (possibly millions) of voters actually use this logic. Cultural and sociological brain rot in the west is at an all-time high.

Remember back in 2021 when the director of the UN's World Food Program stated that 2% of Elon Musk's wealth could end world hunger so Elon responded by saying that he would sell $6b worth of Tesla stock and donate it right then if he could be given a specific plan on how to achieve this goal so three days later the UN WFP did exactly that but then Elon donated the $6b to his own foundation instead and as of now there is no indication that he ever gave any money to end world hunger?  Fun times.

In fairness, Trump cultists DO want to help needy people from Africa too.

Elon Musk is from Africa, and he is in tremendous need of prodigious sums of money from the US government. The only thing Trump cultists want to do is just alter which particular Africans receive foreign aid, so that the ones with dark skin and insufficient caloric intake don't hog it all.

The 'working-class' Trump voters don't see themselves as poor, and they look down on people who need government assistance. Politicians know that those at the bottom of the heap are acceptable targets, but not people in the middle or just below the median income.

States just need to plan for budgets with as little, if any, federal spending. I think the only federal funding they should plan for are Medicaid, SNAP… and even those are in the air.

I wouldn't generalize about Trump voters like this. Plenty of them are poor, know they are poor and self-identify that way. I'd expect that poor white people who rely on food banks who bothered to vote broke for Trump. Good example of these people are in videos of Springfield, Ohio - many of the characters in those videos would say they are poor.

A bitter pill to swallow is that in spite of the fact that poor people in rural areas support social assistance programs, have fairly moderate views on other issues, Republicans will be the party that seems to be for "people like them" by default in most parts of the country.

Cuts to food banks will definitely damage the administration if it becomes known that this was the work of Musk.

The snark was meant to imply that the idea of a voter who would knowingly vote for killing their own family to own the trans is an insulting strawman.

It's not a strawman. You're talking about these people like they're clear-eyed and level-headed. These are people that engage in politics in an emotionally triggered way, with massive cognitive dissonance. Many of them are hooked on anti-intellectualism in the way that people are hooked on smoking cigarettes or drinking 3 cups of coffee per day.

Nobody is claiming that they would choose anti-trans over their family not dying if their brains were working properly... but their brains are broken. Some of them (probably tens of thousands) directly got family members killed during the pandemic relatively recently.

Most voters are emotional about politics and poorly informed, including most of the people who voted the right way(Harris). The average trump voter is not a weird maga cultist, and likely could be convinced to vote against trump given the right approach from a trustworthy messanger. Painting them all as deluded morons with broken brains is dangerous because it prevents us from understanding why people vote the way they do, and leads to us failing to recognize that the dementia patient in chief was only able to win because the Democrats dropped the ball politically in so many ways over the last 8 years. The vast majority of voters are not deeply into politics, and its natural for them to assume that a party that does stuff like responding to people struggling with the cost of living by insisting it was all nothing but a "vibecession" or covering up Biden being unfit for office until it became undeniable at the debate was also spouting bulls**t when they warned that trump was a dangerous authoritarian.

I find the disdain for all trump voters as frustrating as I do because it makes persuading them to stop supporting trump much harder, and it appears that most of the people demonizing them seem to not realize or care.

After 9 or 10 years, people are giving up. The majority of these people cannot be saved, and arguably, many of them do not deserve to be saved. People's empathy only goes so far, and you're asking anti-Trump people to be Christ-like. At a certain point, for some people, pro-Trumpers are like some milder form of modern nazi, or more accurately, nazi apologist / nazi tolerator. You have to cut your losses and realize you're dealing with people who are very stupid, very evil or both.

How do Democrats beat these people politically? I don't know, but it's not the duty of anti-Trumpers to tolerate and empathize with these people anymore IMO. That was 2016. That was 2020. The cult will tolerate or even cheer for ANYTHING and some of us have no more f__ks to give after a decade of Trump's war on America.

Or both, as the latter can prevent the former from happening again? We probably won't win either of the Florida seats for sure, but maybe the upper New York state district if we're lucky and be one step closer to the house being able to put serious brakes on Trump and musks Madness

You're literally a Canadian. You have no clue how normal Americans see this stuff. trump was only able to win last year because the Democrats completely destroyed their own credibility over the course of the biden administration. Most of them didn't vote for fascist oppression because they didn't believe the Democrats when they claimed trump was a dangerous authoritarian. (this was accurate, but its not hard to dismiss such accusations when the people making them had been covering up and denying the fact that Biden was too senile to be president for half of 2024, and then had a massive civil war in public after the lie was completely exposed. And one side in that war was insisting that the Democrats stick with the guy who was obviously not mentally capable of living independently, let alone being the goddamn president)

The reality is, a f**kton of people see the world differently from y'all, and accurately recognize that too many on the left hold contempt for them for elitist reasons. Y'all are pathologically incapable(and TBH until relatively recently so was I) of realizing that trump voters voted for him because they do not believe that trump is a flaming racist with soup for brains who wants to be dictator of the world, and believed that the crazy s**t he said was just "trump being trump"(remember that the vast majority of the crazy things trump claimed he would do during the 2016 campaign didn't happen, so its not unreasonable for people who aren't obsessive politics junkies to assume this time around would be the same).

trump won because people expected him to fix the economy(which has been bad for plenty of people, who understandably did not appreciate the "vibesession" coping), and is now personally dumping it completely down the toilet. The guy is obviously a puppet of the apartheid nepo baby narcissist who is the most despicable aspects of the ultra rich all mixed together into one deeply pathetic human body. trump has been given the levers of power with no handlers or adults in the room to trick him into not doing bats**t things on a whim. Frankly, this administration is worse than most Harris voters likely expected it to be. The time to make a real effort to convince the non cultists is now.

Also I must emphasize that the deranged maga cultists are a very loud minority of trump voters.
