And a photo of Army Corps biologists was on the list, seemingly because it mentioned they were recording data about fish — including their weight, size, hatchery and gender.

My state is expecting to miss out on tens millions of dollars in Medicaid money for primary care clinics because it's coming through a payment reform program that has "equity" in its title. Colleagues have informed me that they have been instructed to not use the word "biodiversity" in publications or grant applications because they will automatically be rejected.  Even if that is exactly what the research is about.

I'm sure these people think they are geniuses for simply trawling through metadata files and databases for certain keywords - why did nobody else think of this? Who could have thought of this other than tech-savvy geniuses like the DGE boys. These spurious deletions like the Enola Gay files are simply what falls through the cracks when you take a large-scale automated approach like this - a ~5% false positive rate is still quite good in the algorithmic classification world, after all.

A long time ago, when businesses were first really getting an Internet presence, the company I worked for at the time instituted a URL blocker that was very simple minded.  Among other things, it blocked any URLs with "sex" in the title.

This lasted about 24 hours, when it was realized that we couldn't reach the web site of one of our customers -- Essex County, New Jersey.
