Israel is fighting this war for the west as well and everyone need to realize that .

Please. They are fighting only for themselves. They are not part of the West in any way.
Jihadists want to create another caliphate and Israel is in their way but they have goals far larger than just taking Israel .

You’re so freaking Islamaphobic

At least he’s being honest about why he supports Israel and its war on Palestinians, unlike many people.

I do wonder what would have happened if Sharon had lived. He seemed to have started to change near the end of his life and was starting to drive the settlers out of Palestinian areas. If that had continued I don’t think Hamas would have been able to take over like it had in Gaza.

I like to think that it could have been an "Only Sharon can go to Ramallah" situation, but maybe he just wanted to limit the IDF's exposure by cutting off the more burdensome Occupied Territories.

Vacuous propaganda about "the West" is what's left when you've given up on liberal democracy and human rights, and I'm tired of pretending that it's not.

Most young people see right through it. At this point, we may as well be sending money and weapons to Azerbaijan for all that this so-called "ally" has to offer most Americans.

Muslim and Jihadists isn't the same thing.

Then why do so many of you imply that they are?

A far share of non white feel closer to arabs than to jews.

Palestinians do better propaganda than Israelis and have wide influence on certain parts of academia since Edward Said.

The Pro Palestine phasing on these polls is always ridiculous.

"We are only losing the argument by 13 points."

Now Trump may have come closer in NY than we are to getting more support than Isreal but....

Yes, Trump's Gaza policies are absolutely horrendous. That's why I give him a B+ grade right now, it alone drops his performance by a whole letter IMO.

I still don't understand why Palestinians are the one group of people you've managed to have empathy for. It's completely inconsistent with your views on Ukraine and domestic issues.

Because he has no views unless they've been spoon fed to him on Twitter. Let's be honest, it's not like he decided he supported Palestine because he read some books on the subject. The algorithm gave him some cringy redpill slop accounts that happen to be so far-right they decided they didn't like Israel because (((Jews))) and he ate it right up.

And before 10/7 it was double that. Israel had almost universal sympathy on 10/8, it is genuinely amazing how they squandered it.

Christ. After flooding the zone for 18 months with nearly unchallenged propaganda about famine, ethnic cleansing, ‘baby murder’ and all sorts of vile trash, they’ve only got 33%?

Crowing about this poll once again shows how poorly the ‘anti-Zionist’ eliminationists understand Israel. Israel was far more diplomatically isolated during the Cold War than it is now, and at no point was it close to military or societal collapse. American support declining to the level it was in the 1990s( and it will probably go back again when the war is finished) is not going to bring about the redemption of Arab irredentism you desperately crave.

“Partisans’ sympathies in the Middle East situation follow a pattern similar to their favorable ratings of the two countries. That is, Republicans broadly sympathize with the Israelis (75%) over the Palestinians (10%), while Democrats sympathize with the Palestinians over the Israelis by a nearly 3-to-1 ratio (59% vs. 21%). Independents’ sympathies are similar to the national averages.”

It’s been a good boost for the pro-Palestine side but one has to wonder if there’s much more left to gain considering all of the gains have been with liberals/dems. Also amazing how the working class is quite pro Israel (see crosstabs) but college grads are even. https://news.gallup.com/file/poll/657467/2025_02_28%20Middle%20East%20Topline%20and%20Tabs.pdf

And this should also serve as a warning to JD Vance not to closely embrace the Tucker Carlson anti-Israel right. The right wing anti-Israel, antisemitic types like Tucker, Candace Owens are very vocal but an absolute superminority of the GOP and MAGA when it comes to Israel. Chasing the Bernie left could expose Vance with older voters.

The thing to remember about the ongoing political formation of young Americans is that they have never known an Israel whose government doesn't very openly align itself with what has become of our Republican Party.

That depresses opinion among young Democrats, and, since young Republicans are mostly America First chauvinists, they're never going to be much of a counterweight to that.

It’s a soft support. If America ever had to put up or shut up and use its military with boots on the ground or if it monetarily had an actual visible impact on the average American the support would evaporate. The actual MAGA base is highly anti-Semitic. The Israel support comes from the old school Republicans.

As an academic, I just want to say it's not about being "influenced." In fact, there is heavy pressure on all of us to keep quiet about this issue. But when you are trained to look at things objectively, it's very difficult not to see that Israel have responded disproportionately and without regard to diplomatic norms or even human rights norms since the 1970s. If anything, it's the ability to see through propaganda that makes academia a bastion of pro-Palestine sympathy.

Also, LOL that you think people who fight wars with stones are "better at propaganda" than arguably the most masterful propaganda-state in human history.

Where I 1000% agree is that the right wing is still more anti-semitic than the left, and I would be very cautious as a Zionist to see them as natural allies. Even the most enthusiastic Israel supporters in the GOP think Jews are going to h311. It's precisely because they believe in anti-semitic interpretations of the Bible that they insist on Zionism, not exactly reliable allies imo.

Academic humanities and social sciences are the intellectual centers of post-modern thought that outright rejects the idea that one can view things "objectively" in the first place.

This issue is also very much a thermostatic one. is. Before 10/7 there was a Palestinian shift but it was very gradual. If the news shifts from Palestinians being killed in Gaza to suicide bombings in Tel Aviv, it shifts public opinion toward the Israel

That said, the left will never have a winning message on I/P until it ditches the idea of eliminating Israel. There are quite a few Dems who believe Israel has gone overboard and sympathize with Palestinian children but to the chagrin of the academic left, are unlikely to get on board with anything other than a 2 state solution.
