Quote
The vote was 224-198, with 10 Democrats joining all Republicans in approving the censure resolution. Green and freshman Rep. Shomari Figures, D-Ala., voted present. As the vote proceeded, Green sat by himself along the center aisle.

Quote
The 10 Democrats who voted to censure Green are all moderates: Reps. Ami Bera and Jim Costa, both of California; Ed Case of Hawaii; Laura Gillen and Tom Suozzi, both of New York; Jim Himes of Connecticut; Chrissy Houlahan of Pennsylvania; Marcy Kaptur of Ohio; Jared Moskowitz of Florida; and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington state.

Nothing more anti-American and deleterious to the health of our republic than the sundowning felon spewing lies and bile for 90 minutes on the once-hallowed rostrum.

Kudos to Rep. Green.

We are only months from the Democratic Party being banned, so that won't be necessary.

The ones from red/swing districts I could somewhat understand. The ones from safe districts I have more limited sympathy for.

Edit: I'm plesantly surprised that neither Henry Cuellar nor Jared Golden were on that list. This also proves that the moderate Republican is all but extinct at least in the house.

Absolutely spineless. I don't know about primarying these folks, but I can't understand their political calculation--it's not like voters are going to remember this in 20 months during the next general election and would choose to send these folks packing based on their vote against censuring Al Green, ffs. Just goes to show how Democrats care more about decorum and "respect for the institution" than actually mounting a resistance against a president who routinely disrespects our institutions and shows a lack of decorum merely by being a convicted felon and adjudicated rapist and known Epstein associate and longtime con artist and standing behind the seal of the president to get away with it.

I don’t care about this.

I *do* care about Trump putting the US on a dangerous path of aligning with our worst adversaries while betraying our allies.

I care that he is currently running our economy (and our retirements) into the grave.

I care that there is an increasing likelihood that he will rig elections (or outright cancel them—see the thread about our allies questioning whether they should share intel with us).

I wish that you, OSR, cared about your country too.

yeah the R plan for 2026/28 is to basically keep Dems fighting each other instead of fighting Rs

and that plan very well could work

Cuellar probably knows Green very well from long-term Texas D circles so he wouldn't alienate his friend like that.

also if you're Henry Cuellar, you might just be uniformly opposed to punishing Congressmen for reasons that could be apparent

If you spend the election season calling Trump a threat to America and to democracy - which he IS - and then turn around after the election is over and care more about decency and decorum among your own members, then you have no business being in office. Just staggeringly out-of-whack priorities, and it makes the whole party look like unprincipled hacks. Trump does not treat the Congress or anyone else in government with respect based on the office they hold - otherwise he wouldn't have sent a violent mob after his own vice president - and it is long past time for Democrats stop feeling the need to show any respect in return.

Enough of "when they go low, we go high"

When they go low, punch them in the balls.

Jared Golden and Henry Ceullar voted against this, but these 10 idiots couldn’t bring themselves to? Half of them aren’t even in competitive districts.

Primary them all. We need fighters.

the alternate universe where Dems kept going all-in on "Trump is a threat to Democracy" after more voters decided he wasn't a threat than he was is, is also the alterative universe where some people talk about how the Dems are deadenders who aren't doing anything/enough

math is math, unless you have a way to make 48 more than 52 or 214 more than 218, then all the ideas of how to resist are more performative than substantial and you can keep criticizing Dems for not doing enough forever

Jeffries is pretty much the unknown leader at this point and I suspect people are gonna be disappointed if they expect him to change that over the next 18 months or ago. Jeffries is too close to Schumer to really distinguish himself much. But he might just fall backwards into being the Speaker by this time in 2027 and the only way he won't be Speaker involves Rs holding serve or gaining seats in a Trump midterm

It is thoroughly amusing that this censure was introduced by Dan Newhouse, who everyone believed was the moderate candidate in his race.

If anyone remembers this vote in a couple of years, it will be because it has become a liability.

Trump is an autocrat. No one gets credit for his successes other than him. "Institutions will not save you, don't make compromises, and remember the future."

Pathetic. Even more so than Rubio.

Democrats, Republicans are not going to stop being autocrats because you vote with them on this issue.

I think those who voted for this in non-competitive districts, alongside much of leadership, is in for a reckoning.

Now we know who the 10 most spineless and idiotic (or Trump-supporting) Democrats are.

The party should primary all of them.

Green was censured.  He didn't lose committee assignments.  He wasn't expelled.  He merely had to listen to the charges and some ranting from those who supported the censure.

Johnson pretty much had to seek thls.  Green is a lunatic, but what was worse was the collective behavior of the Democrats present.  Worse for the Democrats, mind you; America will not be thinking about it this week.
