Absurd that this wasn’t 9-0. There’s no rational legal argument that the government can just decide not to pay for services already rendered?

SCOTUS just delivered a massive defeat to the Trump administration and has crippled one of their biggest efforts, and your still finding a way to doom by being disappointed that it was too close of a decision?

There are going to be more defeats for Trump on the way. I don't think you'll be dooming like this by the end of the year when SCOTUS has struck down almost all of Trump's major actions.

Trump's reign of terror is coming to an end.

Now after the Kakyo prediction, I can safely say Trump will become the first Emperor of USA in their history.

Didn’t they already say they won’t be following orders from judges?

The real question is if the administration listens to them. "John Roberts has made his ruling, now let him enforce it."

Some have suggested it like Vance, but Trump explicitly said they would follow what the court says, so now we'll see if that holds.

On legal theory it should it have 9-0, but that’s been true for a lot of 5-4 and 6-3 cases that went the wrong way with this court.

I’m more surprised that John Roberts didn’t split the baby by throwing some arbitrary ‘win’ for the right in while ruling against them facially the way, like with the Obamacare ruling. That’s been his signature move for a long time.

Oh well if Trump says it, it must be true.

Amy Coney Barrett is such an unexpected wild card. I can dig it.

It seems as though ACB is a liberal on just about everything except abortion at this point.

Also not sure what this really does with USAID beyond requiring that a substantial number of its pre-Trump contracts be honoured. It's not like SCOTUS has told Trump he can't make any changes to foreign aid whatsoever.

She's probably as close as a real Catholic as we can get in a politician right now.

Either The Trump will make his "big move" now with ignoring his own judiciary or he's already been lame ducked.

It's generally stunning how the 2 biggest right-wing hacks on the bench aren't Trump appointees.

Adherence to black letter contract law is not really a liberal/conservative issue. ACB is definitely a conservative; she’s just not willing to throw out the rule of law entirely in pursuit of conservative policies.

It's unfortunate how refreshing that is in this day and age.

Yup, but he also picked Roberts, who turned out to be less extreme.

I'm not genuinely enraged at this like I am enraged at the Dem senators who confirmed Clarence Thomas or at RBG for not retiring, but in retrospect they really should've just confirmed Miers and not made such a big fuss.

If the US government could legally not pay money owed for services already rendered, wouldn't that be a sovereign default? And what would happen to the entire global economy?

I doubt Miers would've been any less of a hack and it would've been an even more hack-ish appointment at the time given that she had no judicial experience whatsoever.

Considering how much the Right opposed her appointment, I kind of doubt she would have been as extreme as Alito.

That's the snag that won USAID this case.
