Here's his post:

Quote
Yesterday, China issued Retaliatory Tariffs of 34%, on top of their already record setting Tariffs, Non-Monetary Tariffs, Illegal Subsidization of companies, and massive long term Currency Manipulation, despite my warning that any country that Retaliates against the U.S. by issuing additional Tariffs, above and beyond their already existing long term Tariff abuse of our Nation, will be immediately met with new and substantially higher Tariffs, over and above those initially set. Therefore, if China does not withdraw its 34% increase above their already long term trading abuses by tomorrow, April 8th, 2025, the United States will impose ADDITIONAL Tariffs on China of 50%, effective April 9th. Additionally, all talks with China concerning their requested meetings with us will be terminated! Negotiations with other countries, which have also requested meetings, will begin taking place immediately. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Tweet doesn't load, what did it say?

Trump might be changing his mind on the whole thing.

Trump just announced extra 50% on China, effective in 2 days.

This is like a poker gamer:

"I see your 34 and I raise you 50"
Always good when the guy playing poker with other people's money bankrupted six casinos.

Good, no more playing nice with Beijing! I supported protectionism against China under Biden, and I will do so under Trump.

Nobody wants to work in a factory given the choice. These people want us to move backwards. They're terrified of progress.

Let's just assume for the sake of argument that these phone factories due to come to the U.S. and these jobs can be filled with American workers.  How much is a phone going to cost?

It’s actually 104% tariffs on China coming this week:
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/trump-administration/live-blog/trump-netanyahu-tariffs-live-updates-rcna199871/rcrd76511?

Trump has threatened an additional 50% tariff on goods imported from China if the country does not withdraw its retaliatory tariffs.

China, one of the U.S.'s largest trading partners, said it would place a 34% tariff rate on U.S. imports after the Trump administration increased U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods to at least 54%.

In a Truth Social post, Trump said today that if the country did not reverse course by tomorrow, he would impose “ADDITIONAL Tariffs on China of 50%, effective April 9th.”

“Additionally, all talks with China concerning their requested meetings with us will be terminated!" said Trump. “Negotiations with other countries, which have also requested meetings, will begin taking place immediately.”

I guess it's not entirely clear whether it's 104% or 70% (50 replaces 34). I interpreted his post as 104% at first but I guess it's not clear and some are questioning that.

This whole situation risks becoming an omni-shambles for Trump if it isn't already.

He said additional.

Right but the 34 was additional over the 20. So he could be saying the additional over the 20 is now 50 not 34. Or he could be saying additional over both of them who knows.

Hehehehe USA does not believe in free-trade capitalism anymore. World will need to adapt to Protectionist and Anti-Capitalist USA. Who would know that Donald Trump would be the one to fulfill everything that Stalin desired?

I suppose if you can sell something as “conservative”, Americans automatically eat it up as better for the economy, reason why Anti-trade has more successful branding under this new logic. This trade war with China will keep escalating and it will be the burial of the US by essentially ending their commercial relations.

Which will weaken both countries (good for the world) but also open a vacuum for others to occupy. China can start buying MORE from US competitors like Brazil to compensate their market closing to US products.

Wow! Right wing business leaders thinking they can control a populist who ends up destroying the country? Where have I heard that one before?

Calling JP Morgan “right wing” is pretty weird, given how they’re huge supporters of Democrats.

End of Capitalism? The main reason why Communism didn't work was because you couldn't ascertain demand at a granularly enough level to effective grow the economy. Guess what computer scientists have been working on the last 15 years?

80 years.

Central planners where using more and more computers to try to control and forecast the future to no avail.

The EU has made a proposal to remove all industrial tariffs. If Trump refuses to negotiate, get ready for swift retalitory measures.
