Obviously Rubio will be easily confirmed. I am curious how many Dems would vote against him. From his hearing today it seems all Dems on the FA committee would vote yes.

Rubio will get between 80 and 90 YES Votes.

I assume Bernie Sanders will vote against him. Maybe there are a handful of other Democratic Senators that have personal animus towards Rubio due to conflicts while he was in the Senate?

Rubio seems a nice person. All Dems on the committee spoke highly of him. Duckworth especially thanked him for supporting her when she was pregnant. Even otherwise partisan fighter Booker spoke very highly of him. I found it hard to figure out a reason to vote against him without looking partisan hack. Maybe Warren would vote against him citing supporting Israel.

It'll be 99-0 with Rubio abstaining per Senate tradition in these scenarios. Heck, they might even do it by Voice Vote

There was simply no coherent reason to oppose him. He's not even much of a Trump supporter. It's not quite Trump appointing a Democrat, but it's the next best thing.

It's indeed 99-0, but Rubio voted for himself, and the missing one is due to JD Vance's vacancy.

I'm surprised Elizabeth Warren voted for him.  He wouldn't have voted for her, that's for sure.  He had one of the most partisan voting records in the Senate.

It's really shocking not one Democrat opposed him - because I have never found him to be at all a likable person, or one that I think would have the same values as a liberal Democrat would have.

I would add that they mostly "play games" pretending to be in opposition to each other. When necessary - they unite. And fools among us believe in their "theater". So - don't be fools, guys!!

I think Democratic Senators pick their battles on these things so that they can say "Look, we voted for Marco Rubio, we're not that partisan, now let us explain why we need to vote down these other people."

I don't know if this strategy actually works, but it's probably what's going on.

It's very rare for Senators to vote against their colleagues in large numbers when they are appointed to the Cabinet unless the nomination is uniquely offensive like Jeff Sessions was for Attorney General. Even an extremely partisan figure like Hillary Clinton was confirmed near-unanimously.

Senators often get to know each other very personally and develop strong relationships (working and personal) with each other across the aisle - their faith and confidence in each other to do the job when they are appointed (appropriately) to higher positions often transcends the political rhetoric that consumes their public statements about each other.

And in the instances where they don't like each other, voting to confirm an otherwise-uncontroversial appointment is an efficient way to get rid of them.

I am surprised at how unified Democrats have been lately, on this and on nobody objecting to the election result. They seem to be well-organised as a caucus and can work out a position as a team and stick to it. The real test will be if the moderates are as great team players as the left are though.

Well the Caucus already cast a very divided vote on the Laken Riley Act so....
