It's giving Sununu vibes. I don't think Kemp wants be a Senator or President for that matter. He probably goes back home and becomes UGA chancellor or something.

I lost all respect for Kemp when he continued to support Trump after everything he put him and his family through. They got death threats after the 2020 election.

Indeed, especially after winning reelection in 2022. He has nothing to fear from Agent Orange anymore.

It's really beyond me how he and folks like Ted Cruz play nice again after Trump insulted their wives. I'd never allow my wife getting insulted, and certainly not from a guy who was found liable for sexual assault. MAGA is truly a death cult.

I think he runs and makes the race Tilt/Lean R. Even if it's transparent that he's only running to benefit his party and doesn't really want to be a Senator, I think that'll be enough for a majority of Georgia voters.

Weren’t you the one that said there was zero shot Warnock or Ossoff could win in the runoffs or in 2022?

Yes, I'm now feeling even better about Ossoff's chances. Wink

It’s a really annoying fact of life that people who always predict that one party will win every competitive race will be “right” about 50% of the time and always point out those moments while conveniently ignoring the numerous times they’ve been way off.

It looks like today's Atlanta Journal Constitution poll did some Senate numbers:

Quote
Kemp leads GOP in 2026 U.S. Senate preview

The intrigue: Gov. Brian Kemp leads Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Atlanta) by roughly 3.3 percentage points in a hypothetical match-up for the 2026 Senate seat.

Though the two are statistically tied — that difference is just barely above the poll's margin of error — the finding underscores the fact that Kemp, whose name has also been floated for a 2028 presidential run, has a political future beyond his term's end in January 2027.

Ossoff fared better than all other hypothetical GOP competitors in the poll, including U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Green (16.9 percentage points behind), Kelvin King (12.7) and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (9.6).

Methodology: The pollster conducted live telephone surveys of 1,000 registered Georgia voters April 15-24. The margin of error is +/-3.1 points at the 95% confidence level.

Of the respondents, 39.4% were Republican, 37.7% were Democrat, and 23% independent.

Well that's a tea leaf against the potential of a Kemp entry, I have a hard time seeing the two run against each other...or anyone prominent really go against Kemp. But who can say beyond the man himself at this stage.

Note that this isn’t specifically for Senate, just a promotion in 2026 in general. Though I guess it’s telling in its own way that he didn’t specifically say he’s thinking of Governor

Brad Raffensberger will run for Governor to succeed Kemp. That's the most obvious choice for him and he will dispatch Stacey Abrams.

Hm, Kemp only 3% above Ossoff isn't really worth putting his career on the line for this in this likely environment imo

It's really interesting

The polling we are seeing is showing a competitive race between Ossoff and Kemp. Definitely one Kemp could win but it would likely be far from a blowout.

Yet, in GA his reputation is that he is an unbeatable titan who will easily defeat Ossoff.

In reality, GA continues to trend left, Trump is double digits underwater in the state, and Kemp really has not overperformed that much in his two races for governor.

It seems there is a big gap between his perceived electoral strength and his actual electoral strength, and he will need all the strength he can get in a Trump midterm.

Yeah I think people need to remember that Kemp's performance in 2022 was only okay. Every other Republican sans Warnock won, it was a red environment despite a Dem uptick, and Abrams was much less strong this time around, so a 7pt win in GA for someone who supposedly is so immensely popular is kind of meh.

Yeah, people forget he ran only two points ahead of a MAGA firebrand election denier in Burt Jones.

It looks like everybody getting around Carr with Jones leading the MAGA opposition. He probably just going run for reelection.

Raffensperger? Idk, doubt he runs for reelection. He probably wants to be Governor or Senator, and realistically, this is his probably his last chance to do so. He’ll be 71 in 2026.
