On Wikipedia, there appear to be 2 separate color schemes that are standardized for elec; one for presidential elections, and one for non-presidential elections.

Presidential Example

Non-Presidential Example:

While the non-presidential one does its job, I strongly prefer the presidential colors because it has more vibrant and distinctive colors. So I am confused as to why the non presidential color scheme is used in the first place, why aren't the presidential colors just used for everything?

I feel like you are more likely to get a accurate response to this question in wikipedia edit comments rather than on this forum. But maybe I know nothing.

I don't know, but the downballot once is vastly superior.

I'm curious why you think this, I just find the presidential colors to be more vibrant and contrast better.

Because I'm curious, I checked the talk pages of Wikipedia:WikiProject Elections and Referendums but found no singular explanation as to why they're different. The closest things I found were just mentions that they are different but not why, other than that's the way it's always been done.

The differences between the "presidential" and "downballot" color schemes have been frequently remarked upon.

Why are the reds and blues for downballot and presidential slightly different? Best to have a single set. ...

I have no idea why the downballot and presidential races are different - but that's how it is across (probably) tens of thousands of races. ...

Despite being a very frequent Wikipedia user, I never noticed this before.
