Both parties have long stuck to a seniority system for awarding top committee posts. But younger members like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) are looking to leapfrog their peers in bids to be the highest-ranking Democrats on influential committees.

“Having multigenerational leadership in the party sends a strong message that we can really rely on the leadership of seasoned senior leaders and that we are also a party that cultivates a new generation of leadership to help carry that work forward,” Ocasio-Cortez, who is 35, told HuffPost on Wednesday.

Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.), who is 45, launched a bid Monday to lead Democrats on the House Natural Resources Committee. She’s vying for the seat being vacated by Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.), 76, who is stepping aside as he recovers from cancer treatments.

As long as they make it about communication more than ideology or purism, this is the way we have to go.

Because they're egomaniacs and the Democratic establishment (DNC, MSNBC, liberal orgs) parades them as heroes.

Pelosi, at the every least, should stick around to keep mentoring Jeffries. Say what you will about the woman, but she knew how to run that chamber. Tossing her out is unwise, especially when we have a pretty new and inexperienced leadership.

Also, neither of these people are in leadership anymore.

Yes, Pelosi is exactly where she needs to be right now. Nobody does it quite like her.

That was by design. She blocked a lot people from rising up and muddled in a lot of house primaries. There's a reason why Van Hollen, Rice, Lujan, Schiff, and Beccera all went to pursue other ventures. Cause they all thought it was a dead end job. She blocked a lot of rising talent and one of the reason why this caucus is so old now. Even when it comes to freshman.

Rumors making the rounds that Pelosi is working to stop AOC. I’ve always respected her commitment and dedication to her country and to public life. The House is soon going to lose a very effective representative and elder-statesman.

She was a great speaker. Her time has come and gone. Jeffries has been leader for a term now,he doesn't need mentoring.

Her commitment and dedication at the moment seems to be to stopping any attempt at refreshing the Democratic Party. The seniority system blocks promising young leaders from rising through the ranks and entrenches the idea that people have about Congress being broken beyond repair because of a handful of older politicians whose entire identity revolves around their office.

Pelosi is still Spk Amaritus and wants to ensure D bills by 28 are passed like DC statehood and gun background checks and campaign finance reform. While Jeffries is still in training while he will be Spk. Everytime Rs win, the Secular Trifecta gets set back and Eday cycle it doesn't get terminated
