If this election tells us anything, the future of the Democratic Party is clearly Loving County, TX and Area 51! Very impressive swings for Harris given the national headwinds!

Dems have been stronger than usual for decades in areas like Loving County where there are more voters than people /s

What's the story behind why Loving County has more votes than people?

IIRC, Texas domicile law allows people to vote where they own property and some people who aren't regularly in Loving County during Census years ended up voting in Loving County in general elections

I'm honestly more interested in how Trump got 97% of the vote there in 2020 (improving on his 2016 performance) and in how Obama got 22% in 2008.

I've heard some of it is there's like one or two families who just like everyone voting there so they can win local sheriff and stuff.

So the county is basically a modern day, American Old Sarum.

it's West Texas, there's either oil to be drilled under that land or you think there's oil, and therefore your land is valuable and you gotta keep a piece of it

Some sort of Covid-related thing that resulted in less full time staff there?

Even then it would be weird for an area to be 97% R even if it was basically all military. And despite all the conspiracy theories it's pretty much been proven that Area 51's purpose is as a testing ground for experimental aircraft, all the secrecy is because things as mundane as the shape of aircraft makes a big deal, and I can't see people with such advanced degrees in things like aerospace engineering being that Republican even if Air Force is a pretty conservative branch even compared to other branches. Then again there could be a sharp difference between an aerospace engineer working at NASA and Area 51...

Are people who work at Area 51 really registered to vote in its precinct? Seems like a security risk if they are.

you'd think that people working in secret locations (Area 51 or the CIA) would be able to vote by mail if they voted at all

Yeah that's probably not it. Upon checking it out it looks like the precinct's only populated area is the small unincorporated town of Rachel, Nevada whose economy seems to be mostly based on Area 51-related tourism. So maybe Covid-related in some way as well but not all that clear.

FWIW 2020 was 35 votes for Trump and 1 for Biden.

Roswell, New Mexico is also pretty red so clearly extraterrestrials are a very Republican demographic.

Most of the staff who work at Area 51 live in and near Las Vegas and commute to work aboard a plane, so they don't vote there.

But can it make up for how much Harris bombed in Hawaiian leper colonies? Biden won Kalawao county 23-1, but Harris only won it 15-3.
