brtd, a payroll tax is much more regressive than a fast food tax.
Not if it was made progressive enough.
i would support a payroll tax to fund national health care because i think it is important that everyone pay something. no one gets something for nothing.
What about wealthy investors and the like? Bottom line is, you'd be funding a national health care system under a very regressive system. What other country does this? It's a f**king stupid.
i dont know why you are so opposed to a fast food tax.
Because it's an idea so stupid it hasn't been implemented ANYWHERE and is opposed by over 85% of the forum. Opposing a fast food tax is not a radical idea.
you must really love your mcburgers.
No, I try not to eat fast food. I also don't own any guns and think your gun proposals are stupid, and hardly ever gamble and think all anti-gambling legislation is idiotic. I oppose stupidity whether it affects me or not.
Tweed sums it up best here:
no, this isn't the answer - as BRTD pointed out, it would just be horribly regressive and not accomplish anything. I'd probably just lean towards holding restaurants to MUCH stronger health standards.
Strengthening health standards for fast food is going to do a hell of a lot more than making it cost a few cents more. Would you rather have requirements making fast food much less worse than it is now with no fast food tax or no restrictions on trans fats and fast food still mostly being garbage and a 2% tax? Which is going to do more good?
