The AIPAC purity trolls would probably be trying to defeat Reagan today.

He will be attacked for this a bit, but not much, unless he has other "siding with Bernie" votes that can creade the "Ossoff sides with Sanders / socialism" line of attack.

Ossoff did the morally right thing here.

They will do this anyway but it was actually such an ineffective attack against Kamala that they basically stopped doing it to go all in on the transgender fear panic.

By 2026, my assumption is this issue will be seen like Iraq. Israel will have largely crushed Hamas, but still be dealing with insurgency, their own extremists, apartheid, and basically most of the third world hating their guts. Public opinion is already very mixed and the occupation’s association with Trump will push many more into opposing this war and the occupation

Israel-first organizations are about as representative as the "Latinx" organizations. I know this might surprise some of the pro-apartheid Democrats who love Israel no matter what.

Ossoff doesn't seem to have great political instincts. He sticks to his principles instead of the safe option far more than he should as a swing state senator. We can only hope this alone isn't enough to sink him.

Warnock voted the same way, though…

This one vote isn't gonna sink him unless Kemp announced he is in the same position as Risen a Jewish Senator in a swing state. But remember it's a runoff, if he loses the primary he can win the runoff if the R doesn't get 50

I feel like any Dem would've won that seat back in 2020 and Ossoff is nothing special. I wish Jason Carter ran instead of him.

Israel isn't important to very many Georgians. This isn't New York or New Jersey.

Just say he's "America First". After all, these same bastards want Ukraine to roll over, and we have given Israel way more aid over the years. I'm a borderline neocon, but with Trump in nobody is going to rein Bibi in. No blank checks.

If Kemp is the nominee, I'm moving this race to lean R. Ossoff is just a mediocre candidate. I commend him for voting with his conscience.but this was a politically bad vote for a state like Georgia if his opponent is even remotely competent (like Kemp).

You are aware it’s going to be a Trump midterm? Ossoff should be favored even against Kemp for that reason alone.

That is why I said IF the opponent is Kemp. Georgia is still a lean R state overall so a good republican candidate can absolutely win it in a Trump midterm. Scott defeated Nelson in 2018 afterall (in Florida). And several endangered democratic senate candidates in 2022 survived the Biden midterm.

Georgia’s trends are nowhere near as awful as Florida’s for Dems. Ossoff is not a lazy candidate like Nelson. And 2022 didn’t have any R incumbent senators going down.

I would advise Rs about MD Hogan was clearly the fav early on and Also tooks won a landslide, Ossoff can survive R+6 like Hogan was leading by 6 pts, and it's a runoff anyways

Thank goodness we didn't lose MD

Hogan leads Also tooks by 6 early and loses

I agree. Not saying Ossoff is a sure thing to win, but comparing Nelson to Ossoff is a bad comparison. Notice how Agafin quickly reaches for the only recent example that confirms their priors? Just because the two states share a border does not mean they are politically similar.

And GA’s trends aren’t awful for Dems at all. They’re actually among the best in the entire country.

"Trump midterm" is a bad excuse imo. I think it's fair to say Rs have no chance in VA and NH Senate because Trump is President, but the guy won GA by over 100k+ votes and Kemp is very popular. Imagine if Tom Wolf was running against Toomey or something in 2022 or so.

Shapiro running against McCormick in 2030 if a Dem wins 2028 is a good example.

Hogan was the fav to win the MD Sen and he was just as Popular and a Maverick like Kemp was, Kemp hasn't announced yet anyways. As soon as Kemp announced his approval will go down like Hogan did.

Granted MD isnt GA but it won't be a landslide

And Warnock won the state by 100k just two years earlier. It’s called a swing state for a reason

The idea that Ossoff has terrible instincts and is DOA because of a vote on Israel 2 years before his election is insane at best and revisionist history at worst.

Need I remind you all, Ossoff was not carried into office by Biden’s and Warnock’s coattails. Arguably, Ossoff helped Warnock that year with his amazing campaign against an incumbent. If I remember, everyone on this board argued about how terrible Warnock’s campaign was in 2020 up until they both made it into the runoff. Conventional wisdom only changed after the runoff because Warnock performed .5% better than Ossoff, and that was due to Loeffler being far more disliked as Senator than Perdue.

Few voters would remember/care, but AIPAC and other lobby groups would.

AIPAC was gonna oppose Ossoff anyway.

Yeah AIPAC is a right wing hate group that backs some of America's worst, most fascist members of Congress in exchange for a) supporting Netanyahu unconditionally and b) opposing progressive economic ideas at the behest of its billionaire Republican donors.

I sincerely hope they come after all 18 Democratic senators who voted for this. That will expose them and discredit it completely in the Democratic Party - and people won't forget next time they dump $30 million  primarying a congressperson.
