Its interesting to note from this interactive graphic provided by USA Today that besides Massachusetts and North Carolina, which hold places of honor at the front of the convention floor, all the other states delegations that have "Floor" seating are all from Battleground states. All other states not on the floor are either "safe" Kerry states or "safe" Bush states. (The only exception is South Dakota, i'm sure Daschel's pull had something to do with that!). Maybe an insight into Kerry stategy in terms of order of importance to his campaign?Huh

The front&center states go (from front to back) MA, NH, FL.  Yeah, the seating arrangement is pretty obvious.  FL occupies a wide area near the front, so any shot either directly behind and above the speaker, or slightly behind and to the side of the speaker will show a nice sea of Florida signs.  Subtle like a brick.  We'll see how Florida-2000 is played at the convention--it would be so easy for them to over-play it.
Hey, why is CO way in the back and to the side?  Kerry's still running adds like mad here (local, Colorado Springs, not Denver!) and he started his tour here, so why the low profile?

Tennessee has a better position than you would think.
Nevada, Colorado and West Virginia. might have been better up there.

It is interesting though.

Even so, it is competetive.  They don't put RI in the front.

It's been funny.  The signs are very difficult to make out on TV, not a good contrast or font.  The only two signs easy to read are from the side stage camera view.  It shows Alaksa and Montana so that is what people at home are seeing.  The heartland of the democratic vote.

I agree, the states names don't stand out except from the side view....disappointing. Thanks for posting the map....really makes my point on the Battleground status states.

Very interesting...since the Democrats almost certainly have a MUCH better idea of the real opinion in most states, this can either be reflective of the true situation, OR a feint to fool people... Wink

He is talking about the fact that both campaigns know more about the true situation than we do.  They have internal polls  that are much better than anything the public sees.
