Democrats are weak. MAGA got that right, and the Democratic party is about to learn a very very hard lesson.

I really don't know what else we could have done. Cut out the Sun Belt states entirely and just live in WI/MI/PA?

Am I missing something because I think GA still looks ok for Harris? Unless DDHQ is off or behind there is an estimated 1 million votes left to count in GA.

Only reason for you to think that is Atlanta’s suburbs being the only place in the country that had a positive swing for dems in comparison to 2020, which balances the pro-Trump seing in rural Georgia that is more representative of the country overall trends.

Which makes Georgia swing less in comparison to 2020 as these cancel each other out. But the trend is for Trump to still get a gain in the state thanks to rural areas, even if the swing will be smaller in Georgia than the one he will get in the country.

Basically this is what defines 2024:

- Overall small but very consistent pro-Trump swing across the entire country, related to anti-incumbency bias and general lack of satisfaction with the economy. Very clear that many feel that their purchasing power reduced post-covid and didn’t go back even after pandemic ended.

- Republicans making HUGE inroads with minority voters, which contributes to places like Texas and Florida moving MORE to the right than the country average.

- Democrats mostly maintaining their white suburban vote, but it’s very inconsistent. On average they are on par, but they are actually losing a bit of space in many of them. While Atlanta area is the only single one they’ve shown significant improvement.

The bottom line is that’s something extremely misguided about Democrats strategy of wanting to become the “system” party that caters to the likes of Liz Cheney and others in the era of populism. Trump’s messaging about peace (even if it’s fake rhetoric on his part) and about disrupting the US political establishment clearly has a reason to reasonate with many.

Like, I saw dem hacks in this website actually pissed about Liz Cheney’s honor and using her as a reasoning on why Trump was out of touch. Maybe it’s you loyalist partisans and the dem politicians that were misguided in siding with these types in the 1st place?

Clearly the Cheney support wasn’t enough to materialize actual votes amongst white moms in suburbs in comparison to 2020, so what exactly do you people feel you gain with by welcoming that “educated evil conservative that knows how to eat with a fork and a knife” into your party?

They are going to lose because of inflation and the economy.  This is not complicated

I agree. Biden was dealt a very poor hand.

The Democrats are a pathetic party. They ran a fine campaign, but they time in office was a complete joke. These four years have been so pathetic and underwhelming that no solid campaign could recover from that. That is on Biden, that is on Pelosi and the House, and that is on the Senators. They wasted these years, and have given voters nothing to believe in. Absolutely ridiculous, and they all deserve to have their legacies tarnished forever for this.

They did a lot. Biden and the administration just weren't good enough at selling their accomplishments.

Perhaps, but even if that’s the case, they deserve just as much blame for not being able to show that to the American public.

I don't think it would have mattered given the COVID hangover. People thought things would get immediately back to the way things were in 2019 but they obviously didn't, for good economic reasons. But that doesn't matter to a regular person; all they can see is their wallet having less money.

Where does this rank on the list of worst election nights? Worse than 2016 and 2004? I think so.

Probably the worst night for Democrats as a whole since 1984. 1988 Democrats at least did very well downballot while in 1984 the conservative coalition regained control of the house and had a super majority in the senate

This is even worse than 2016. What the heck happened.

Harris is down in Wisconsin despite Madison and Milawukee % in being higher than statewide average.

Definitely number 1 issue Dems need to change on.

Democrats also need to get a lot less woke and caving to the ultra left, such as with Gaza. Walz never should’ve been picked. Added nothing to the ticket but was picked largely for the Gaza issue.

Dems will have to get better messaging. Trump is totally going to take credit for Biden’s good economy, and Dems will let him because they’re all weak and feckless.

Im not sure how much it impacted the election because we still earlier own but... An underrated group being thrown under the bus after this is the LGBT community.

This is worse than 2016 if we lose because we know Trump is incompetent and dangerous to democracy. In 2016 he was repulsive, unqualified and clearly a fraud but people thought his cabinet would control him and do the work of governing. There is no such thing now, he's surrounded by lunatics now.

Democrats needs to leap to the right on social issues

They actually don't they just need to tone down the grandstanding (and relying on celebrities). Meet people where they are don't talk down to them with Harvard/Yale jargon, people are way more understanding than you think if you approach it in the right way.

Just look at this. 2012 Obama.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwYwdt8uLNA

Man, that guy ran a masterful campaign. Talking about " normal people ". Meeting with average families.

Yes I 100% agree with you. He won because he seemed like a normal, very charismatic dad that people would see at the school gates, who's house you'd be happy to send your kid to for a playdate. He very sucessfuly painted Mitt Romney as an elitist (note the areas where Romney did do well...0

Romney won in the same areas that Kamala is overperforming in.

At the least Harris treated the whole election as if she is going to lose all the swing states - still I'd wait until nearly all the votes are in before even making a forecast.

I remember people saying that that event was supposed to swing not just Puerto Ricans, but Latinos in general to the Democrats. I suspect that's a symptom of a broader failure by Democrats to understand that community and what it wants.

They mistake the opinions of Latino political activists as being representative.

I think the MSG rally joke?/gaffe? did convince some boricuas to vote dem, but obviously the swings out of that were bigger.

That said, your statement itself is right.
Latinos like ivermectin and don´t like "drag queens library story hour".

Can we now all agree that the Liz (+Dick) Cheney endorsement tour was pointless at best and actively destructive at worst?

Democrats fought against the baddies of the Bush Administration for 8 years and Harris surrounded herself with those baddies.

It was awful for every Democrat who fought in 2000-2008.

I definitely don't agree. Not unless we get polling that suggests that.

A lot of Trump supporters voted for and made excuses for those baddies at the time.
