With all due respect anyone who realized JUST THURSDAY NIGHT that Joe Biden might be too old to run for president is either gullible beyond belief or has the memory of a goldfish. Guy's 81 years old, had 2 brain aneurysms, and has always stuttered with gaffes. I voted for him in the primary (End of April, by that late in the game the best path forward to beat Trump was show confidence in the Democratic nominee) with the understanding he was liable to have a senior moment on national TV and a contingent response of "see if we can get people to think Trump is even more unfit to serve". That's the corner we are backed into and the time to avoid it was in January at the latest
Honestly, the time to avoid this was 2020 in the first place, a younger candidate should have been chosen then.

Given that Biden only barely won, I have doubts about most of the other 2020 candidates in winning at all. I'm not necessarily saying that the other 24 all lose, but I stand by the notion that Biden was the best bet then.

I actually think that either Cory Booker or Amy Klobuchar were in hindsight the two best choices for the Democrats that election - maybe even if they were on the same ticket.

I really wish neither Biden nor Bernie had ran, tbh. Bernie would be in an even worse situation than Biden right now even if he had won (and that’s a big if).

Well the world in which Sanders wins would be a different world. You can't just swap him in for the same situation as Biden. Obviously if you take the world of a Biden win and arbitrarily swap in Sanders it doesn't look good for Sanders.

Seems like this headline was just a nothingburger or pure speculation.

I mean the family photoshoot angle was put out yesterday or the day before but gormless rubes on this forum were too busy wishcasting.

it's crunch time for the political people who watched way too many Aaron Sorkin productions

I do believe half the reason why the press is so gung ho about this entire situation is that "Biden drops out, contested convention, new nominee, etc" is the brand new storyline that would get them all of the engagement, clicks, attention they want ahead of the election.

Quite honestly, if one stepped back and looked at everything that has transpired since Thursday night, I think you would find that there haven't been any real signs that Biden is considering dropping out. What has transpired is mostly rampant speculation and wishcasting driven from a few select anonymous quotes from Democratic Party operatives and donors who are most likely nowhere near the President's inner circle.

as someone who was watched and typed about way too much baseball.. having to type about the same things over and over can get boring.. so new topics are prized even if clicks/engagement weren't prized

also, for some reason, the people who treat politics like sports don't seem to be as level-headed as they could/should be if they remember the ups and downs of their favorite teams on the way to victory

This is a really key point. The press is inherently not neutral if the neutral storyline is boring.

I am 100% sure Trump will this paragraph against Biden

Quote
One of the strongest voices imploring Mr. Biden to resist pressure to drop out was his son Hunter Biden, whom the president has long leaned on for advice, said one of the people informed about the discussions, who, like others, spoke on condition of anonymity to share internal deliberations. Hunter Biden wants Americans to see the version of his father that he knows — scrappy and in command of the facts — rather than the stumbling, aging president Americans saw on Thursday night.

Those people don't really exist. I haven't seen one person say Biden won that debate. Post the receipts that show otherwise.

Really sad (and scary!) day for the country if true.  Our national security is at risk.

Its 3am and the phone is ringing.  Who in their right mind wants Joe Biden answering.  He can’t function  outside of 10-4pm apparently.

Do you understand what "go back to" means.

It means they faltered with the debate, now it has been assured Biden will stay in, wagons will be circled.

There's still time for him to be convinced not to run. Big influences within the party just need to keep at it, cite miserable polling, and appeal to his sense of patriotism.

This smells of desperation of the family

Quote
Members of Mr. Biden’s family were likewise said to be focused on the president’s staff, including Ms. Dunn, a White House senior adviser, and her husband, Mr. Bauer, the president’s personal attorney, who played Mr. Trump during debate rehearsals.

They were asking why Mr. Klain, the former White House chief of staff who ran the preparations, would in their view allow him to be overloaded with statistics, and they were angry that Mr. Biden, who arrived for the debate in Atlanta with a summer tan, was made up to look pale and pallid, said one of the people, who has been in touch with several members of the family.

Like, do they want to fire the entire President's main staff circle
of the last four years with 5 months to go?

Biden doesn't have a cult following like Trump and plenty of Democrats here will still think he should drop out. They may be sketchy about the odds of that happening, but there is a difference between wanting something and believing it will happen. Personally I think the party structure is very shaky about keeping him on.

So, they're blaming everyone else to stay in the spotlight. This is a total trainwreck. Nixon-esque.

Ah yes, the polling that shows that the debate if anything might have made Trump look bad if anything?
