More Evil American Adversary: British Empire or the Confederate States of America

The two biggest threats the US ever faced was from the British during the Revolution and the Confederacy during the War  and while the British were obviously more powerful, who do you think was the more evil adversary

The British empire perpetuated slavery and worse for hundreds of years and never faced any real consequences for it. The Confederacy existed for four and was utterly destroyed.
