If McGuire (likely) stays the course, it will be entirely down to the classic tale of regional loyalties. In such a low turnout contest the comparatively higher voter turnout in the Richmond counties that he has repped for a while relative to the rest.

Time for the first incumbent defeat of the cycle in Bob Bad, then probably another next week in Bowman.

I still don't really get why Bob Good is in so much danger...don't Republican primary electorates tend to love the furthest right insane MAGA candidate possible? I know he was an issue for McCarthy and during the election to replace him, but some Republicans who were *too* loyal to him have faced close calls this cycle.

Trump is punishing him for endorsing Ron DeSantis over him. Ron DeSantis was more right wing than Trump, but MAGA is a more powerful force in the GOP than the right wing is. Trump is trying to make an example out of Good that there should be no opposition to him within the GOP.

Good seems to be catching up, will be hilarious if he ends up winning. Seems like the type to hold a grudge too, I would certainly welcome the infighting.

Yeah, NYTimes saying >95% was in when in reality a quarter of the vote was still out was a big mistake. McGuire is only up by a point now.

McGuire's lead down to 550 votes and there's still quite a bit left everywhere, including some in Charlottesville/Albemarle.

Edit - Good took the lead!  Lynchburg just brought him ahead

Doesn't seem to be much of a difference but Helmer had a late breaking SA scandal. Subramanyam looks solid, mostly focusing on corruption and healthcare.

More importantly, the carpetbagging, super pro Israel Eileen Filler-Corn went down in flames.

Is he the local version of Marty Dolan or what?

If Good survives this, hopefully he'd do some introspection and look as to why he was even vulnerable to a primary.

HINT- It wasn't just the Trump endorsement.

Compared to other states, NYTimes seems to always have a really hard time estimating what percent of the vote is remaining in Virginia. It's making it very difficult to tell if/where McGuire can make up the current gap of 100 votes.

...and as I was typing this, McGuire now leads by 28 votes. This one is going to be a nailbiter. I wonder if anyone will try to claim voter fraud?

At this point this is closer than Maryland was in the 1904 election.

Got to laugh at online desantis supporters lamenting the fact Good could lose his primary..

DeSantis didn't even bother to endorse him, despite Good being one of his early supporters.

Honestly that’s pretty sh**tty of DeSantis, and I could not care less about the result of this primary.

Those include Dems - especially in Albemarle - so how meaningful they are is unknown.

Evidently shows his lack of backbone..

Although, I'm not sure how Good was expecting his slew of antagonising people (first Riggleman, then McCarthy, finally Trump) wasn't eventually going to backfire.

If Bob Good goes down that's certainly going to embolden efforts to take out the likes of MTG, Boebert and Gaetz in future primaries. MTG and Gaetz seem to have gotten off easy this year and the establishment really fumbled the ball with Boebert this cycle.
