I'm really glad that unlike other center-left parties across the globe, the Democratic Party has not fallen victim to the anti-trans panic.

Amazing how the Ron DeSantis position on the issue is basically the consensus in the UK.
If the Rob position on the Transgender Question was the consensus in the UK, Blair wouldn't have noted that some people truly are "born in the wrong body," as it were, and that his GRA should remain intact. I'm sure DeSanctimonious would call him woke for saying what he said. The Labour position, frankly, is more comparable to Doug Burgum than Rob D. Sanctus--Starmer, like Burgum, doesn't want to talk about, or really legislate on, trans, but at the end of the day, he's willing to give lip service to transphobes (such as Kindergarten Cop absolutism) if need be.

The Tory government already did what DeSantis has done on that issue and Labour isn’t running to repeal it

Comes to show the difference in how the issue plays out in the UK.

Today I learned the Tory government repealed the GRA (the British equivalent of saying "muh two genders at birth") and attempted to heavily restrict adult transitioning (and yeah, I know about the Cass Review, but that only covers the Youths™; nothing like Rob has tried to do about "trans" "people"). Sure, Labour isn't running on keeping the GRA and adult transitioning intact, and it's not running on opposing the Cass Review, but that just solidifies the Doug Burgum comparison vs. DeFat--Burgum wouldn't run on opposing cisgenderism, even if he ultimately did oppose it.

Why do people care what Tony Blair says? No one cares what George W. Bush says now.

Blair didn't leave office nearly as unpopular as W. did. (in part because the GFC hadn't happened yet).

His peak unpopularity was actually a bit before leaving office - by the time of his "farewell tour" many voters were at least starting to forgive him over Iraq.

Eh, RDS is still to the right of Labor or the Tories and wouldn’t buy the “born in the wrong body” stuff. This actually sounds more like what Trump’s personal beliefs are- no issue with adults transitioning and will use preferred pronouns for them but still understands that “trans women” and “women” are not the same thing.
