This Euro has 3 squads which used to be often in the World Cup in the past, but never played a World Cup in the 21st century: Scotland, Austria, Romania

Hungary too, of course, who somehow didn't win in 1954 despite having one of the best international teams of all time.

Why didn't Germany play well against Switzerland today?
Possible answers
A) It has a limited squad which can not play very easily against stronger squads, different to the very bad Scotland and Hungary
B) They played slowly in order to not have tired and injured players for the playoffs
C) They were not in a good day

Injury was the Major Concern for Coach Nagelsmann before the Game. He complained about the conditions.

Italy had a "miracolo" in the last few seconds of the game with Croatia.

Group E scenarios, with all 4 teams currently having 3 points:

"I’m a bit of a nerd about tables & permutations around 3rd place and I want to put this out there to see if I’m right or missing something. If Romania & Slovakia draw tomorrow they will both go through no matter what. They will both be on 4 points which is already guaranateed for best 3rd place. Then if there is a winner in the other game between Belgium & Ukraine, the winner will top the group with Romania & Slovakia in 2nd & 3rd place. If Belgium & Ukraine draw, Ukraine will finish bottom of group as they have a worse goal difference than all the other teams in group."

"That’s correct as I see it, John. All four teams could feasibly end up on four points, with one of them going home."

Everyone in Group C should be sent to the Hague.

Congratulations to England for being involved in three out of the three most boring games at the tournament so far.

And actual congratulations to Slovenia — thoroughly deserved; they’ve played some pretty decent stuff. It’s obviously not settled yet, but it looks like their likeliest opponent in the next round are Belgium, against whom I think they’ll fancy their chances of nicking a result.

It's shaping up to be another Southgate England tournament - easy draw for the group stages and early knockouts, followed by a reality check against the first real opposition. Spain, France and Portugal - literally the top 3 seeds - will beat each other up in the other half of the draw.

Unless England and France have a radical transformation in the knockout games I don't see them going far. They have played some of the worst, most boring football I've ever seen. Of course France's problem is more one of efficiency and execution while England is just a team that looks to have run out of ideas. At the end of the day though I can't see how either of them can reach even the semifinals playing at their current level.

England and France have been terrible in group stages before and gone far. I still firmly expect them to reach semis.

Go Slovenjia !

To be fair, it's not like many of the nations have good ideas either. Austria could go far though. They're also likely to have a very good draw.

Slovakia (/Belgium/Romania/Ukraine) - Slovenia
Austria - Turkey

Assuming Turkey doesn't bottle this eve.

If we end second in our group, we have to play France.

And I firmly expect us to lose after a Lukaku disallowed goal via VAR and an own goal from us

In all seriousness,if  French players turn it up to 6th gear and the Belgian defense will not be able to handle them. We have a makeshift defence at best, or the Sporting Anderlecht defense at worst

At least Tedesco learns from his mistakes though, unlike Martinez.

well that's game over for us next round...

Feel bad for Ukraine though

The dude with the laser can be sent to Russia though.

Way too stressful of a match, anxiety to lose the match much bigger than the will to win for all sides, and not just in this group. No team really at a decent level i feel.

Only Germany maybe or Spain are.

The winner of the tournament will suck.

Lots of boo'ing despite the qualification. Can't say they're wrong. This was not good enough.

If you draw Ukraine, Slovakia and Romania and you get 4/9, only 1 win than i think the manager has to go. Given we play France next round, he will - given we're 95% sure to lose - likely be fired.

He is not popular, so he's out.

We should do like Ivory Coast did and fire the manager mid tournament

(and tbh so should England, the Netherlands & France as well).

It worked for Ivory Coast.

Football will at least be in a better state when Southgate, Deschamps, Koeman & Tedesco are all fired.

Bye.

LOL, when he compares how England tries to win with how a boa constrictor tries to catch his prey LOL. Golden.

Very few surprises in the 8 eliminated. I was expecting Georgia and not Czech Republic to be eliminated. The others, we could expect even before the tournment starts.

Austria in the first place of its group was a surprise.

Trotsky's country (Ukraine) is out. Stalin's country (Georgia) is in the next round.

This was posted in the later stages of the first half. Second half was even worse. Referee stole the game from the Czech team, who were heroic, and the fans.

Georgia humiliating Portugal was a nice consolation, though. Hopefully Roberto Martinez ruins them like he ruined Belgium.

No one likes him around here, so, if this cup ends badly, his future will probably set and done. Also, Portugal looked like a bunch of models on a catwalk. This clip sums up well Portugal in this match:

With the way his career has gone, he'll probably end up as the Brazil manager or something. He's kind of an anti-Mourinho - he comes in, makes the team worse, doesn't win anything, and then moves on to light an even bigger team on fire.
