In 2008 for President

Republicans nominate former Congressman Randy "Duke" Cunningham of California

Democrats nominate Congressman (by then former Congressman) William Jefferson of Louisiana

What happens?

Well, America loses in this one.

I'm trying to figure out a map that works, but I'd say Jefferson wins, by a hair.

Jefferson is very moderate and should be able to attract centrist support.

Also, he has not yet been convicted of anything, as far as I know.

Yeah, Jefferson is moderate to the point of being conservative, an odd political leaning for a black Democrat in a very safe district. Plus, he's not a convicted felon, at least not yet.

Some third-party candidate wins.

We Americans have little tolerance for bribe-takers in high office.
