He's gonna be in for a tough primary.

Also I believe this is unexpected news, since I know Ronny Jackson was aiming for the seat and expecting him to retire.

Cornyn will easily win the primary. It's very difficult to oust an incumbent Senator in one ayway, and he's on good enough terms with Trump to get that endorsement. Anyway, 2026 might not be a good year for Rs anyway in 2026 so its nice to have Cornyn run again who could lock this seat down.

What's the likelihood that Cornyn is the type who says that he's for term limits on members of Congress because the system is rife with "career politicians?" He'll say, like so many of them do, that he isn't going to term limit himself,  but he wants a term limit system that applies equally to all of the Senators, so his state doesn't get "cheated" out of its fair share of pork. "Career politicians" are terrible people, but I'm going to be one myself until the system gets fixed."

I'm pretty sure Cornyn is a proud establishment career politician.

Isn’t Cornyn likely to win his primary?

Lean Republican in a Trump midterm, Likely, bordering Safe under Biden.

Assuming he wins the primary of course.

He’ll probably win his primary. Ken Paxton and Ronny Jackson have both hinted at running.

Lean Republican, if only because there is a chance Ken Paxton defeats him, and that would be an automatic toss up in a Trump midterm.

I don't think Jackson runs if Cornyn doesn't retire. It's probably a Paxton vs Cornyn race

He's not going to lose the primary. It's been over a decade now since an elected incumbent Senator lost a primary, why would that change now? Besides, Cornyn hasn't pissed off the base enough for Ken Paxton to beat him.

He's never been a term limits guy.

TX has a pretty big buildup of R politicians wanting to move up, while Cornyn's occupied one Senate seat since 2002, Cruz the other since 2012, and Abbott the governorship since 2014. All of them have no intention of going anywhere and there's a lot of really frustrated lower level Rs.

Cornyn isnt like that.  But even if he was, it would be a completely valid and logical thing to believe.
