Lord have mercy. I commend their courage for going there in spite of everything, as badly as it ended up for them.

Some drone strikes on known gang locations should be good.

Mexican cartels know not to touch American citizens so Haitian gangs should also learn.

From what I hear the Kenyans are in Haiti with American funding so maybe we can ask them to go after this gang ?

Mexican cartels have killed Americans before. Maybe they try to avoid it but it's happened several times.

Obviously but it’s clear Haitian gangs needs to learn the same, put some fear into them. The people were stupid but well meaning and although  they shouldn’t have been in Haiti, we need to make sure criminals around the world know that killing an American is bad voodoo

They shouldn't have gone there. It's no secret that it's dangerous and it is not Biden's fault for heaven's sake. He's supposed to start a war with Haiti over this? Give me a break.

We are already funding a Kenyan police force that is about to enter Haiti in a few weeks. Is that not basically a "war"

No it's not "basically a war". That's part of a UN initiative to help help restore some order. It's not dropping bombs.

Coming from a family of them, I can say that in my experience missionaries are in the vast majority of cases fundamentalists who do this for their own ego, not any benefit to the local populace that couldn't be much better served w/o them.

That being said they very clearly didn't deserve to die. RIP.

Was Trump a weak president for not holding India accountable for this dumb missionary?

It's still safer for American missionaries than North Sentinel Island.

The state department already had travel advisories. Awful but there isn't much he could've done short of invading and occupying it which would create its own nightmare.

It's tragic and heartbreaking but it's not doing anyone any favors to ignore the fact that this whole disaster is a cautionary tale. It's similar to drunk driving, where it's cruel to be too critical of a dead person, but this stuff will keep happening if people that are completely ignorant and unprepared to go into dangerous countries keep engaging in this weird, charity tourism.

If you want to help Haitians, and if you want to risk your life to help them, there are legitimate organizations that you can work with or contribute to. Twenty-year-old Americans running around Port-au-Prince trying to operate a church school aren't going to help Haiti when the country is falling apart.

The organization they were working for seems quite legit running an orphanage and helping feed starving children is certainly a noble goal in Haiti. May they rest in peace.

Getting Griner released is better optics than having her locked up. Let the world see that America will fight for its people.

So we should give into hostage demands for a dumb person not happy making six figures and wanting to make seven figures but not respond at all to a gang that killed another dumb person who was actually trying to help people .

These two situations are not really comparable.

In the case of Griner, she was arrested by a foreign government because that government wanted to use her as leverage to extract demands. We can (and did) secure her release.

These missionaries were killed by a gang either out of sadism or as collateral damage in an attack against someone else. We cannot bring them back to life, so any response would just be about getting revenge.

No it is comparable. You said you wanted to show the world that we fight for our people , except with Briner we rewarded the hostage taker, here in Haiti we can do the same but instead by punishing the criminals .
You simply just hate Christian missionaries who are the children of conservative state representatives, but like liberal basketball players.

There's a massive difference between harm reduction through securing someone's liberty and revenge through avenging their death. I don't understand why you view them as the same.

The display of anti-Evangelical Christian bigotry here is really breathtaking.

Missionaries are better people than anyone here, including me.  Missionaries heed a call that (for most of them) their first response is to fight it.  It is a call that is hard, it requires hard work, it often requires forgoing the comforts of living in climate-controlled America.  In many places, it required acting incognito.  In others (such as Haiti) it requires the ability to do the hard work of establishing schools, churches, and basic infrastructure.  They have helped provide food lifelines over the years in many risky places, not just for Christians, but for unbelievers who are also hungry.

It's not enough to just report posts here.  The mods need to take a stand on this kind of bigotry when multiple posters engage in it, one after the other.

Imagine actually believing Biden was right to free one of the most dangerous and prolific arms dealers in the world in exchange for some basketball player who couldn’t wait till she got back to the US to get high Roll Eyes

At least these folks were, misguided or not, actually there to try and help people.  Some folks have really been dropping the mask in this thread.

What is bombing Haiti going to solve? Nothing. Biden was right to do what he could to secure the release of an American citizen. Just because she's Black and LGBTQ doesn't mean her life isn't of as much value as White Christian missionaries.

The US protects it's citizens by issuing travel advisories through the state department. If one doesn't follow them then they risk their lives.
