Lots of people threatened to after the 2016 election, but there's every reason to think Trump's second term will be far more destructive than his first. Will you move to Canada when Trump wins?

Honestly, I might try. I have an aunt who lives an hour away from Toronto I could crash with at least until I can get on my own two feet.

Potentially stupid question: What requirements does it take for Americans to move to Canada? The same rules as Europeans? I know they have a point system since this was a blue print for Germany's new immigration law last year. I guess you at least have to be able to afford a living on your own, ergo get hired in Canada.

Not an expert but yeah, you basically need to have a job and everything lined up for you. Or someone you intend on marrying, perhaps. US immigration policies are far more lenient than Canada's.

If Trump wins then I'm leaving the country and moving to Alaska.

My favorite detail from later seasons of The Handmaid's Tale is that Canada not only accepts refugees from the United States, but almost immediately moves some of the show's main characters into a lovely Craftsman home on prime Toronto real estate.

I've thought about it, but it's unlikely. Unless you're from India or China, it's very hard to move to Canada.

I do have some family that lives in Canada, but unless I meet and marry a Canadian woman or get a job there (which is difficult as an American), my chances are slim.

Canada and the US really should have a Schengen area system together like the EU (but I understand why most Canadians are opposed to that idea).

No. Poilevere is going to be just as bad.

I'll have to just suck it up for another four years.

most (>90%) people who say they're going to move to Canada if Blah happens are the kind of people Canada doesn't want and most of the other <10% are liars

This is also true. I don't think Polio Pierre will be exactly as bad as Trump II would be, but he'll probably be worse than Trump I. Ideally, I'd like to move back to my hometown, where I'd be insulated from the brunt of Trump's tyranny by the fact that it's Massachusetts. Only problem is, I can't imagine being able to do that.

EDIT, since I got ninja'd by dead0:
most (>90%) people who say they're going to move to Canada if Blah happens are the kind of people Canada doesn't want and most of the other <10% are liars
As someone who fits into the 90%, absolutely. I looked into seeing how I could get permanent residency in Canada, and I don't think I could.
