More people now think the US is in recession than not in recession. By a margin of more than 2 to 1, people think the economy is getting worse rather than better.

The US is factually not in a recession. Pointing this out is not being elitist nor is it "not listening to Americans". There's clearly a huge misunderstanding of what the word recession means coupled with a serious disinfo problem.

Wasn't there a McLaughin poll from 2 days ago that was a tie? Is this a different one?

That was a sponsored poll.

This one is just mclauglhin,

interestingly, both biden and trump lost 2 points of support, margin remaining same, from last month's mclaughlin poll.

The thing is all of this doesn't really matter.

Because what matters is purchasing power and if people feel life goods are becoming more expensive and if the party in power ignores purchasing power of people (which also drives economy) than people will start to believe there is a recession, because well for them it is.

It also seems to differ from state to state whether there is a recession or not. Someone pointed out than the Sun Belt states are in a recession while the Midwestern states are less so.

Eventually some people will vote with their wallet and compare 2016-2020 to 2020-2024 and they'll eventually go with Trump because of that.

So recessions are just feels now. That's not how it works or how its ever worked. Just say things are expensive.

To no surprise, according to the crosstabs, Kamala Harris would do even more poorly vs Trump than Biden. She just can't take a break.

I doubt most people even know what a recession is or what factually counts as a recession, but it doesn't mean that peoples worries aren't justified.

McLaughlin is useless. Their data is worth next to nothing.
The other polling firms also suggest that most people think the economy is bad and getting worse, which is why Biden is losing.

I know it's anecdotal, but I was at a bachelor party all weekend in Atlantic City. The crowd in the casino didn't exactly feel like people are experiencing a reccession.

Why did McLaughlin spam two polls in 48 hours? Throw both results right out with the bathwater.

Don't lotteries become more successful during recessions? I'm not sure about casinos, but it might be signaling just the opposite or nothing at all.

Good lord, the U.S. is not in a recession. We’re in a period of very strong economic growth. Moreover, wages have risen faster than inflation for a year and real wages are even higher than Trump’s term. 2020-2021 briefly inflated household budgets due to Covid stimulus payments but I doubt anybody wants to go back to that time.

What’s happening right now is that half the country is still whining about the economy to score political points and the media is running with it. I hope the Biden campaign absolutely floods the airwaves and social media with the truth, because right now we are witnessing a massive disinformation campaign in action.

Biden should be honest about the economy vs. how most americans are doing. Yes prices are still high and people feel the economy is not doing good, but he should still be stressing the reality that the economy is strong and not in a recession. That's not lying nor is it gaslighting.

I hope Biden does the same, since that is a recipe for a landslide loss.

It's a commonly observed phenomenon in sociology that's taught in college.  People that are struggling economically usually turn to the lottery as a way out for them.  Unless they live nearby, Casinos are too cost prohibitive for the bottom 60% of Americans, because of travel and room expenses. The lottery is also a very low risk. In contrast to the lottery, people that visit Casinos are usually in the top 25% of wealth Earners, and the rich are less likely to play the lottery. Lastly, people can bet online, so there's no reason to go to a casino unless you have a lot of disposable income.  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3501160/

It makes perfect sense for people at a casino to have a generally positive view of the economy. The people really suffering from the economy ATM are the working-class people dealing the cards and serving the drinks. People in Las Vegas are losing their livelihood, or more accurately, their quality of life due to betting apps and websites that took business from Casinos during the shutdown, as well as paying more for every good and service. This is why Trump will win Nevada. He's winning support from the working class and small business owners, as well as more of the young voters that can't find a college-level job after graduating.
